Chapter 15: Merida's Story *Part 2*

~four years later~

Merida pov

As the rain continuously pours down from above, my determination in changing my fate stays in my heart and mind. It's almost the break of dawn, even though it was impossible to tell because of the dark grey clouds enveloping the sky. I jumped down from my bedroom window to the ground with my cloak on and my bow and arrows with me. I snuck out into the darkness to the open field next to the castle.

With my head held high, I stared at the field, anxious yet strong. I grabbed an arrow and aimed. I pulled the string all the way to my cheek, concentrating on the target and not minding the heavy droplets of water. I let go.

I watched as the arrow slowly as it spun and flew towards the target. I leered and watched as it hit the target. Bullseye.

I knew this was going to be my last week to do what I want, before my 16th birthday, the time I will meet my suitors and be courted.

I took a few more times. I was determined that I would change my fate of marrying some stranger. I was filled with anger and determination. I didn't want any of these things my mum gives me. I'm not that kind of princess. I want to be free. Freedom from royal duties. Free from prissy dresses. Free from becoming who I don't want to be.

There were no more targets since I have shot them all. Yet that's not stopping me. I aimed once again at the first target I shot. An arrow was already there yet there was no stopping me. I let go.  And it hit the arrow, spliting it into two, and still hitting a bullseye.

The rain started to go away, and sun rise was close. I hurried back into my castle. With two arrows in each hand, I climbed up to my bedroom window. I swayed side to side, struggling to get back there, not fall off and get caught. Successful, I removed my cloak. I didn't bother drying some strands of my hair which was drenched.. I just plopped myself on my bed and drifted off to sleep. Hoping that one day, my life will change

Jack pov

I watched from above how Merida shot arrows in swift motions.. She looked upset and very weary.

I landed behind her, yet she didn't notice me. Probably because of the hard and heavy rain making things blury or maybe her trying to let go her anxiety, fear and sadness.

She looked back at the first target she shot. She took heavy breaths and quickly aimed for the target. She took in a deep breath and let go of the string making the arrow fly towards the target. I watched as the arrow hit the arrow on the target, spliting it into two and going through the fabric of the target hitting the wood behind it. I stood there in awe of what she has done.

I felt proud of her. I looked at her and she was looking at the sky feeling nervous like a vampire about to get hit by the suns rays. She immediately ran towards her castle. I looked as she brought out two arrows and courageuosly climbed the castle walls up to her bedroom window. I flew up following after her. She removed her cloak and jumped on her bed falling into a deep sleep. Her drenched hair covering her face which was flat on the bed. Her arms and legs spread wide like a little kid.

I chuckled at the thought that she still has that childish and mischievious personality after all these years. She's like the only kid above the season guardians that got really influenced with my carefree ways. The only thing is, she's not a kid anymore.

Infact, they are all not kids anymore. They have grown up into beautiful young ladies. Not like I would be intersted or anything, if I would I'd have four chicks ;)

But I'm not here to flirt, I'm here to protect. To guide and to cheer them up. Their challenge is coming, And I fear that they might not be prepared. But I'm determined to help them.

I caressed Merida's hair and placed a blanket ontop of her. I looked at her for a little while. I looked at the window and the sun was rising. Time for me to leave.

"Bye Mer. Stay brave" I said softly to her. I flew out the window wondering where would I go next. I tried looking at the bright sun, unfortunately I got blinded. And then, it hit me. I know now where to go.

Here I come sunshine.....
