[Ruka's POV]
The mention of their names always brought about a gloomy atmosphere, memories of that day and the guilt we felt would come rushing back like a tidal wave.
"I should probably go get ready for training," I resigned, to the now empty house.
At least training would be able to lift my spirits, or at least I hope it would.
[Kakashi's POV]
"It's been 12 years... Maybe it is time to tell her what really happened."
Looking at the KIA grave, I searched the carvings until my eyes - or more accurately eye- rest upon the familiar names of my team members.
"Soon... I will tell her when the time is right."
[Ruka's POV]
Before I even reach the training area, which I know I'm late for, I could hear the idiot trio arguing again. Probably something Naruto said to anger Sakura, I thought to myself as I walked out into the forest clearing. True enough, the two were bickering over useless matters, a side effect of being starved in the morning.
Hmmm seems like the Uchiha boy is on the verge of breaking too. Today's training seems like it is going to be interesting.
[ Naruto's POV ]
"BUT IM SO HUNGRY! SAKURA-CHAN COME ON-"
Before I could finish my sentence, I spot Ruka walking out from the maze of trees.
"GOOD MORNING RUKA-SAN" I beamed at her. She seems to be a very nice girl, I hope she isn't mean like Sasuke, that duckbutt. Now that we're on the subject why is Sasuke on the same team as me?! Just when I thought that my happy days with Sakura are finally here, Sasuke has to come and ruin it. I'm not entirely stupid, I know that Sakura likes Sasuke. But maybe, just maybe, if she sees the cooler ninja side of me, she would like me over that Uchiha brat.
"Good morning, Naruto-kun, Sakura-san and Sasuke-kun." Ruka-san replied with a bright smile. See? I knew she was nice!! Missions with her in the team would be so much more fun!
I bounced over to her side and asked," Ne Ruka-san, don't you think Kakashi sensei is a bit mean for not letting us eat breakfast AND be late for our first training? That means lunch would be later too!" Ruka-san chuckled before muttering a quick 'iatebreakfastthough'
"YOU ATE BREAKFAST?" I heard Sakura-chan scream. "But Kakashi Sensei said not to eat so that we wouldn't puke during this intensive training!"
Even Bakasuke seemed a little jealous. Ha maybe I can team up with Ruka-san to make Sasuke's life more miserable!
[Ruka's POV]
These poor kids and their open minds, I can read them like an open book. Well, technically, that's what I'm doing. Forbidden jutsus are so useful even though controlling their minds are a taboo. Well it's not like I have any interest in controlling these powerless kids. I just wanted to take a look at their current emotions just to be sure that training would go smoothly later on. Anytime now, Kakashi would be arriving to start his torture- training - for these Genins.
<A few hours later>
"Yo! I got lost on this path called Life! Sorry I'm late!" Kakashi cheerfully greeted the team. The faces on the Genins were hilarious! If looks could kill, Kakashi would be powerless against them.
"Now, let's start our training! Here are 3 bells, take one from me and you would get to eat lunch. Fail and you'll be starving till dinner time." Kakashi announced with glee. Even with three quarters of his face covered, you could tell that he was gloating at the thought of their failure. Yes, I said their failure, not ours. I've already gotten a bell when Kakashi took them out of his pocket. Genjutsu, I have to admit, is the best way I thought of to not fail the test while concealing my abilities. Smirking internally at Kakashi's ignorance, I continued my act as a good student and listened attentively to his words.
"Ready, go!" Kakashi started the training. Sakura, Sasuke and I immediately went to hide amongst the surrounding bushes, while Naruto stayed to prepare for a frontal attack against Kakashi. He's either really prepared or really idiotic, I snickered to myself. There was a shift in Sasuke's chakra signal and I tried to focus on his actions. He was repositioning himself so that he could prepare a surprise attack on Kakashi when Naruto is distracting him. Smart move, but not smart enough to fool Kakashi. Not being able to bear the second-hand embarrassment from their failures, I dashed out of my hiding spot and went off to begin my own training.
After about 3 hours into the test, I heard Kakashi call for a break and went back to join the team. Sure enough, all of them were trashed and played with by Kakashi.
"All of you would not be getting any lunch since none of you have been able to retrieve a bell-" Before he could finish, I held up the bell in my hand and winked at Kakashi playfully. "What- I- Okay except for Ruka all of you have failed the test. Go back to the Academy if you're not ready to be a proper ninja. I would give you all another chance after my lunch. Sakura and Sasuke, you two may eat the bento, but none of which should be given to Naruto. For being the dumbest, Naruto you get to watch them eat while you're tied to the post." Kakashi concluded his speech and signaled for me to follow him. I trialed after him, knowing that he would just hide behind a tree and observe his student's actions. Ever since his team's...departure, Kakashi's emphasis on teamwork has been especially strong. The number of teams he had failed for not showing teamwork were uncountable. But whatever floats his boat, right? He's the sensei now, so I can't do much and personally, I agree that teamwork is extremely important.
"How did you get the bell?" Kakashi asked as he leaned against a tree, his eye glued on his unexpecting students.
"Genjutsu. Right when you started." I replied casually, knowing that he was just glad I didn't show any flashy moves in front of his students.
"You sneaked away to do your own training, right? Since I asked you to not interfere with their training." I nodded to his statement, secretly glad that he was keeping tabs on me.
My eyes trailed his body as he casually flexed his muscles while leaning against the tree. Mmmmm that is one hot body. That sharp jawline is also a plus and that- before my thoughts turned naughty, I saw his muscles clench in anticipation to spring forward. There goes his scaring tactic again.
He then proceeded to explain his test to the three Genins while I walked towards them.
"But if it's about teamwork, then doesn't that mean that Ruka-san didn't display any?" The cheeky Uchiha brat asked.
Kakashi and I exchanged glances before I quickly replied, "I'm a special case. I wouldn't be with this team for long periods of time. Treat me like a... freelance team member."
The trio's faces fell slightly at my words. However it is true that I cannot always spend time with this team. The Hokage loves to give me missions that take a crazy long time and effort to complete, since I technically volunteered to do all his risky jobs. Furthermore, I can't tell them my actual rank or worse explain what my missions are. Assassination isn't really a great conversation starter.
[Sasuke's POV]
Something is definitely wrong. I've never heard of a temporary member in a team before. What's weird is that our team has 4 members, excluding Kakashi sensei. That's unheard of! Is the Hokage slacking or something? Also, how strong is Ruka? She managed to get a bell from Kakashi sensei when I couldn't! Maybe my hunch about them being siblings is correct! That's unfair to us if he let's her get the bell, isn't it? But maybe she is really that strong... I'll just stick close to her and see what kind of jutsus she can do, maybe if she's really that strong, I can get her to teach me some powerful jutsus. Powerful enough for revenge...
