That name sounded so familiar. I couldn't tell where I had heard it from. Who knows. Maybe it's just my mind trying to accept all of this.
"I'm going to drive you home, let you pack, and you can sleep here." She said as she stood up.
"When is he coming to get me?" I asked. I hope I didn't have to sit here all day tomorrow.
"As soon as he can."
"Can I sleep at my own house? I really just want some peace and quiet in the place I last saw them."
She nodded and said, "Then I'll come pick you back up at 5:30 in the afternoon."
She led me to her police car. We got to my house in no time.
She offered to walk me to the door, but I politely declined.
I walked into the silent, dark house. It was about 11:30 at night. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep. After everything that happened today, it all added up to be the worst day of my life. And it was quite a competition.
I decided to get my phone from my room, forgetting about everything scattered around and broken. I wasn't gonna walk barefoot on glass again, so I put on a pair of shoes.
I picked up my phone, noticing that it wasn't broken, and slipped it into the back pocket of my black skinny jeans.
I looked around at the mess. The glass ended in an almost perfect line that separated my room and the library.
I walked out of my room, not even bothering to try with sleep.
*IN THE MORNING*
I was sitting on my bed all night, blasting music through my earbuds, trying to pass the time. I tried going to sleep at about three in the morning, but I couldn't get the thought of never seeing my family again. I might be adopted, but they took care of me.
I was glad that I was going to meet my real brother tomorrow. I wonder what he's like. Will he like me? What is his band like? Hundred of thoughts like that flooded my mind.
I didn't eat breakfast or lunch that day. I decided to shower at one. It took me longer than usual. I was done at about 1:50. I decided to try and make a good first impression, so I put a little effort into my appearance, mostly because I was going to be meeting his band. What if they don't like me? I quickly pushed all the thoughts like that aside.
By the time I finished blow drying and straightening my long blonde hair, putting makeup on and picking out what to wear, which I decided on a My Chemical Romance shirt, my black leather jacket, a pair of ripped black skinny jeans that I had trouble getting into because I'm fat and my black combat boots, it was already three thirty.
I decided to start packing. I found he suit case my dad used to bring when he would go on business trips. It was a big suit case.
I dragged it up the stairs and into my bedroom. There was still glass on my floor, so I set it on my bed and opened it. I put all of my band tees in, a few pairs of jeans, a few sweaters, a couple pairs of leggings, and a couple infinity scarves, tank tops, shorts for sleeping in even though it was the middle of winter, pajama pants, one of my sweatshirts, one of my brothers sweatshirts, a few of his tee shirts that were huge on me, and then the girl essentials like makeup, hair brush, head bands, hair ties. It all fit in the suit case.
Then I went to get a duffle bag. I got two extra pairs of shoes in it and some small stuff from around my bedroom. I managed to stuff my straightener and hair dryer in it. Then I was done. It was 5:25. I grabbed my phone charger and earbuds, which were a Christmas gift from my brother, and put them in my black over the shoulder bag that I was taking with me.
I was about to carry my suit case down the stairs when I remembered one of the most important things. My stuffed elephant from when I was a little kid.
Then I carried everything down the stairs. Just as I pulled out my phone to pass the time, Brenna pulled into the driveway with her police car. I stood up and unlocked the door, letting her in.
"Do you have everything packed?" She asked as she grabbed my suit case.
I nodded and carried my duffle bag out the door and into the trunk of the car.
We both got in and as she pulled out of the driveway, she asked "Have you eaten dinner yet?"
I shook my head. "What restaurant do you want to go to then?" She asked.
"I'm not that hungry, but thanks for the offer." I said, trying to turn down the offer as politely as possible.
"Yes you are. You haven't eaten all day." She said.
"How did you know that?" I asked, giving her a confused look.
"I didn't know it for sure, but your answer confirmed that you haven't eaten. Now, where do you want to go?" She said.
"I'm not hungry." I said.
"Then I'll just pick. How about Longhorn?" She said, being as stubborn as I was.
Longhorn was my favorite restaurant, by far. "Okay."
*A FEW HOURS LATER*
I was sitting in the police station, on my phone with my earbuds in. My phone said 11:30. I was exhausted. I hadn't slept in more than 24 hours.
I was beginning to think that he wasn't coming to get me. Every time the door opened, I would look at who was walking in, getting my hopes up every time.
I eventually gave up at about 1:30. I stopped looking at who was coming in. I turned up my music all the way, trying to block out the world.
Then, two feet came into my view that was focused on the ground. I looked up to see a boy with galaxy colored hair standing a few feet from where I was sitting. I pulled my earbuds out, paused the song and stood up.
"Are you Skylar?" He asked.
I nodded. He came and gave me a hug, not letting go.
