Chapter Three
By: Dani Love
Everyone meets up at my house, and as soon as I'm brought to consciousness, I know this is it. My mother is going to kill me.
"Whatever I did, I didn't do it!" I scream, blocking my face with my hands.
"You're grounded for two months, I'm taking you out of public school, and you will write Alpha Ryan a five paged essay- front and back. You will make a public apology to Alpha Michael and Luna Rose at Ryan's eighteenth birthday bash." My mom says, she looks me in the eyes and there's no kindness there. I want to protest, explain my side, but it won't do any good. I'm not Vivian; I can't bat my eyelashes and get my way.
Her face is blank, her tone is even, but her eyes are blood- shot red so I know she's been crying.
I look to my dad to understand.
"This ends now! No more of these nightmares! If it happens again you're moving in with your grandmother in North Dakota! You will be on your best behavior, Missy! One strike and you're done! You will work extra hard to fit into this pack! No more talk about traveling, or any of those silly dreams! You're a member of this pack and you're going to start acting like it!" My dad throws a chair when he raises his voice. It's aimed at me so I make sure not to move, hoping it'll hit me and he'll take back what he said. It misses me by a couple of inches, which is just my luck.
"And if I don't?" I challenge, leveling my eyes at him.
He roars, and his whole body begins to shake in rage. His light brown eyes are fighting with the blackness that wants to gain control.
"Richard, it's okay. I'll take care of it," my mom says. She looks at him with so much affection, but all that disappears when she looks at me.
"If you don't get your act together, we'll be kicked out of this pack! Your father has given up so much for you! He used to be beta! BETA! Do you know how high of a rank that is? We used to live in the Pack House, but because of you we don't even get that luxury anymore. Now you're going to put us into Omega rankings! We're begging you, stop being a freak!"
Once the word comes out of my moms' mouth she freezes. She covers her mouth with her hand. She takes a few steps toward me, trying to apologize but no words will form.
Cody, left earlier I guess. Rena and Vivian are here, and they have been quiet this whole time; not saying a word. But I don't care about them; I don't care about anyone at this moment.
"Freak? Well, mom," I spit the name out, it's poison on my tongue, "I'm sorry Sally got kidnapped, next time I promise to make sure they get me!" I growl. I bite back my tears, because who cares if I cry anyways?
Everyone is frozen with that horrified look on their face. I spin on one heel towards my room and slam the door shut.
I know pretty soon I'm going to be called into the living room to apologize, so I didn't waste any time grabbing my running shoes and survival kit (It was always ready for me to use at times like this). I jumped out the window. My room was on the first floor so it wasn't really a jump.
I had my 'Mine' ring burning a hole in my pocket. The survival kit was a large suitcase filled with clothes, money, blankets, food, and water. It was enough to last me two weeks if I was careful. It slowed me down, but it was camouflage so it blended in. I had to hurry, there were guards everywhere and if my parents alarmed them I was missing I'd never get out.
It took me two hours to reach the cave with the survival kit. It's been my secret spot ever since Ryan, Cody, and I found it. Every time I got mad at my parents I escaped here, but only for an hour or two; just so my parents would worry and realize just how their life would be without me. This time I was going for a week.
When I got to my cave I could tell something was wrong. My stash of magazines were scattered, there were empty bowls and berry juice all over the place. The place reeked of fish, and must. It wasn't until I saw the blanket move that I realized I wasn't alone.
I bent down in front of the character to get a look at his face. I was still a pup so my senses weren't that great, but all I had to do was look at the face to know he was a werewolf. He was young, maybe eleven or twelve. I was about to remove the blanket to get a better look when the olive colored eyelids opened.
He gasped, "Sally!" He screamed, jumping up and wrapping his arms around me. The blonde kid was nude, and he smelled like he hadn't taken a bath in days.
"I knew you'd come for me! How'd you escape?I miss you so, so much!"
I was so confused; I stood there with my mouth open. "W-who's Sally?"
He wrinkled his nose, "You're Sally, silly! What's in the suitcase? Is it food? I'm hungry."
I nodded my head slowly, putting two and two together.
"I'm not Sally, I have a triplet named Sally but she died when I was very little. My name is Hazel." I say. The little boy looks up at me, his mouth wide.
"You're Hazel! You're Sally's sister! I can't believe I found you!" He runs up to me and envelopes me in another hug.
"Where have you been? Why didn't you help us?" He starts to cry, and my heart aches.
"Wh-What do you mean?Who are you? How do you know my sister?"
He grabs an envelope and it to me. "Sally said that if I found you I need to give you this."
I took the envelope and peeled it open. Inside there was a note.
Dear Hazel,
I need your help. I've been sending you messages and I know that you're getting them. I just don't know why you haven't put two-and-two together. I'm trapped in the out skirts of Redwood pack. I've been taken by a rogue of werewolves; they have also taken many innocent kids. I've been tortured and on my eighteenth birthday I will be killed. I need your help; you're the only one that can help me and the rest of us. The nightmares you get are just visions of my reality. You're my last hope; I just hope Carter gets this to you in time. I don't know what else to do. I'm sorry I'm risking your life, but you're my only chance of escaping. I believe in you, Hazel. You're stronger than what others give you credit for. Think smart, I beg of you. Trust your instinct, and think with heart and your head. I have to go; if they see me writing this I'll be dead for sure.
Forever Sisters,
Sally
I re-read the note and re-read it again until the ink smeared from my tears.
"See? You have to help us!"
I pull him in for a hug, and we both cry together. And then he opens his mouth once again.
"I found her," he says. But his voice is no longer his; it sounds an awful lot like Cody...
