He stared up at his ceiling, replaying the conversation over and over.
"I like Yoko."
"W-what?"
"I plan on confessing to her on Friday. Im going to ask her out for a walk in the park. I was wondering if you could keep her Friday free for me?"
He sighed and glanced at his calendar. Today was the tenth. Friday. It was nine o'clock at night and Yoko had left for the park an hour ago.
"I wonder if she accepted his confession?"
His question was answered when he heard the apartment door closing. He shot up off his bed and hurried to the front door. He expected to see her smiling and happy and giddy and ready to tell him all about how the confession. He gulped and stopped as he saw her standing, wiping at her eyes. She was...crying?
"Yoko." She looked up, surprised and caught off guard. She hurriedly wiped away the tears forming in her eyes and plastered on a small smile. "Hey, Ji–"
"Why are you crying." His voice was stern and demanding.
"I—"
"Did you reject him?"
She stopped. He knew? She gulped. Their eyes locked and her heart sped up and her mind began to race. "You knew?"
"Did you reject him?"
She stayed silent. She averted her gaze and began walking past him, stopped only when his hand grasped her wrist.
"Answer me, Yoko."
"I did."
"Why?"
Again, she stayed silent.
"Why?"
No answer.
"Why?" She turned to him, her eyes welling with more tears and her heart thumping against her chest.
"Because I realized I like you, you Baka!" She shouted. Yoko yanked her wrist out of his grip and slipped on her shoes.
The front door shut and she was storming down the hall.
Zico stood, processing what just happened.
Yoko...likes me?
