Weeks and months pass by in a blur. Nothing interesting really happens. I've been working crazy getting homework and projects done, that I haven't really had time for fun. I went out to coffe with Sarah a couple of times during big tests, but I am mostly bored. I'm shocked it's already December, half way through the school year.

Highschool has been okay, but as a sophomore I'm not totally experienced yet. The Winter Formal was last Friday, and even though we didn't have dates, Sarah and I went. Actually, it was my first highschool dance ever. And it was awesome!

We were getting ready in my room, doing each others make up, fixing each others hair. I had bought a long, dark blue dress for the occasion. It was made out of a smooth tulle and silk material, and I loved it. Sarah brought a fluffy, mid-length purple dress dress that matched her perfectly.

Arriving at the school in my mom's little silver car, we stepped out into the chilly night. It wasn't a long walk to the gym, where the dance was held, so we didn't worry about being late. We took our time walking up the sidewalk. The walkway was faintly lit, so I couldn't see what was ahead. Nearing the last corner, I walked into a someone. There we a group of people talking quietly in a circle. It was hard to tell who were because of the dark, but soon enough we figured it out.

"Uh, I'm sorry I didn't see you th..." But before I could apologize someone cut me off.

"Hey! I know you! You are the New Girl, right?" A girl asked.

"Uh..yeah. I've been here all year so i'm not really new anymore," I explained.

"Brit, is that you?" Sarah asked.

"OMG hi Sarah!" A girl, apparently named Britney, replied to her.
"Guys, these are some of my friends." She introduced us to the rest of the group.

Everyone took turns saying hi and introducing themselves. There were four others; Marce, Abe, Jay, and Derek. Jay reached out to shake our hands. His warm touch felt amazing against my freezing cold hand.

"Hey, we were just going in, do you want walk with us?" Jay asked.

"Yeah, okay." I agreed.

As we walked Sarah leaned over to me and whispered, "Wow, he's cute!" "Yeah, and very polite," I added.

For most of the dance we walked around talking to different groups of friends. It was fun, the music was great and the food was okay! Despite my horrible dance moves, I was enjoying myself. About halfway through, the DJ announced a slow dance. I didn't have a date, so I just hung back watching and talking with Sarah.

"Umm, uh excuse me?" Someone tapped on my shoulder and I turned around. It was no other than Jay!

"Hi!" I answered, surprised.

"Hey, would you like to dance with me?"

"Uh, sure!" He wants to dance with ME!?

He took my hand and led me to the dance floor. We began to sway back and forth with everyone else. (No one actually knew how to slow dance) I was trying to focus on not bumping into anyone. Curious, I looked up. His eyes were bright blue. I always liked blue eyes. They reminded me of my first trip to the ocean. When I ran from the waves that chased me up the beach. I was frightened by the huge blue crashing waves that made the scary sounds when they...OMG! Suddenly, I realized I was still staring at his eyes. Uhhh what do I do?! Embarrased, I looked away.

He began to laugh. "So, Jane, how long have you been attending OHS?"

"Just this year. I moved from Arizona last summer."

"Oh yeah, you mentioned that earlier."

"Yeah."

The slow dance was over. I thanked him and left to go find Sarah.
