Weeks after the Winter Dance were the same, nothing unusual. Besides Sarah, she's pretty unusual. I barely saw Jay, we had different lunch periods. When I did, we only exchanged brief nods or smiles. I sometimes thought about him, wishing I knew him better. He was a junior, I probably had no chance with him. I should just forget him. I realized for the first time I did'nt even know his last name.

Sarah has been talking all about this guy she met in P.E. His name is Stan Carter, and I've yet to meet him. "I'm telling you, he is hott!" She gushed. "He has blonde hair, oh and his eyes are soo blue!"

Of course, the classic blonde-blues. "That's nice, have you talked to him yet?" I was curious about this guy that Sarah took such an interest in.

"Uhm, I mean sure...kinda...," she hesitated. I squinted at her, I knew she was lying. "Okay fine, not yet!"

"Yeah, that's what I thought!" I laughed.

"Well I'm gonna, soon...," she blushed.

"Good, tell me how it goes. I'm sure he'll like you," I assured her.

"Ahh, I hope!"

"So, how are we going to get home?" I asked, reminding her of the pouring rain outside the classroom window.

"Lets go on an adventure!"

"Ah, what kind of adventure?" I grinned at her excitement.

"Lets walk!"

"That's some adventure!" I joked. "Okay, let's go!"

And with that, we began the treacherous and oh so exciting journey to 1933 Melbey wy. Which was a fifteen minute walk from the school.

"Splash!" Not a minute had passed when I turn to see Sarah with a scowling face and wet feet.

"Eeek! My toes are cold!"

"What did you expect the puddle to feel like!?" I asked, cracking up. "Unicorns and rainbows?"

"In my defense, it blended in with the road!"

"Yeah right, you weren't looking at the road. You were looking at the guy that ran past us, huh?" I winked.

She blushed. "No, I wasn't."

Footsteps echoed off the sidewalk behind us. I turn and see a group of a dozen guys jogging toward us. Sarah and I pull to the side to avoid getting stampeded. Their faces red, and breathing heavily, they jogged past us. The side walk wasn't very wide, and thankfully the group straightened out and went past us one by one.

"It's our schools cross-country team," I pointed out.

"Yeah." She looked over at me, smiling. She winked and nudged me, expectantly.

"Okay, why do you look like that?" I asked. "Why are you giving me the Grinch face?

"Umm, didn't you see that?"

"Uhh, no! What's up?"

"Gurl, you didn't see Jay?"

"No?"

"OMG gurl! He totally looked at you!"

"Oh." I hadn't seen him, the mass of sweating guys within trampling distance probably disguised him.

We finally turned onto her street and made our way up the steep hill.

"Well?" she raised her eyebrows.

"Well what?"

"Well do you like him?"

"Oh. I guess I haven't thought about that," I told her.

"Yeah, righttt." She squints at me, unbelivingly.

I was lost in my thoughts as we walked up the front step of her ranch-style home.

"Wanna cup of hot cocoa?" Sarah asks.

"Is the sky blue?" I sassed.

"Its a no from me," she imitated in her best Simon Cowel voice.

We looked at eachother and burst out laughing. I love our friendship, we laugh at the stupidest things.

Right as we finished making the cup of chocolately deliciousness, the sound of a car engine rumbles.

"Is it her?"

Sarah is already at the window looking through the blinds. "Yup."

I grab my back pack and pull her in for a quick hug. I'm not the hugging type, but Sarah is like my sister. With the full mug in hand, I shortcut across the grass to the driveway. Turns out that was a bad idea.

"Slip. Splash. Owww!" My foot slips on the soggy grass, I fall backward onto my butt, water soaking the seat of my pants. The worst part was the burning sensation where the hot cocoa spilled. The liquid seeped through my sweater and stung at my skin. As I lay, dazedly and somewhat grumpy about not getting to drink my cocoa, I hear the sound of laughter.

"Ahhh HAHAH!"

SARAH!

"HAHAH! Thats what you get!"

I gave her the death stare, but I couldn't resist for long. I smiled. Then burst out laughing.

Honk!

"Oh yeah, my mom is still waiting!" I hop up off the ground, stick my tounge out at Sarah, and get into my mom's car.

"What did you do this time?" My mom greets me.

"Well..."
