There once was a kingdom in the far northern regions of the world, but it was not a cold and barren kingdom, it was blessed with warmth and prosperity from the air that blew up from the south. Until winter that is, then the true pain and terrible weather of a northern region hits.

Now this kingdom was called Ramonia, it was a smaller kingdom, but it could defend itself from other thieving royals. It was peaceful, but tragedy soon struck in the winter. The queen fell deathly ill when the prince was still a toddler and soon died in that same winter, leaving her son and husband behind. The king of course was terrified of women, he only had male servants and only married the queen because he was required to. So when the queen died he feared his heir wouldn't live. He put out a call for any woman willing to care for his son. Many came but only for the money, they couldn't keep up with his antics, except for one woman.

This woman was Maria Mathis, a poor commoner, barely able to take care of herself and yet she didn't shy away or grow tired of the young prince. The king gave her shelter for a while, until he too, died of the same sickness the queen did. Maria was forced to leave because of the council disliking her being a commoner and deemed her unworthy of caring for such an important boy.

Maria was seen as kind and taken into an inn for her work, she soon had a child, a healthy baby girl but no one knew the father.

'Do not worry 'twas not the king who gave life to this child.' Maria had said and still does to this day does she do so and everyone believed her for Maria, my mother was no liar.

Even in her sickness she would say the aches and pains she had but she was never demanding treatment, she was only speaking the truth and because of this I grew up knowing true kindness and strength.

My name is Alessandra Rosanne Mathis, at the age of 16, when I am eligible for marriage and being courted for who knows what ungodly reason, is where this story truly does begin.
