Cameron’s Personal Thoughts:

Being a detective takes sacrifice. You’d give up your time, money, devotion, and family all to help people in need. There’s one thing you wouldn’t give up though, and that thing is your partner. You’d die for him/her. You’d lie for him/her. A partner’s bond is the strongest thing I’ve ever known. I’m just happy I got to experience that bond with Alexander Mercer.

Alex Mercer’s POV

"Freeze!" I stopped walking and sighed. "Yes, you there! With the nice ass!" I turned around to come face-to-face with my lover's hand which he tried to make look like a gun. I gave him a disapproving glare. "You're still mad, aren't you?"

"I am not mad," I replied. "If Dr. Evergreen wants to whisk you away to another department, that's fine with me." Even though I had just said that, I couldn't meet his gaze. It was not fine. He just became my partner not to long ago, and now he's leaving? What the hell Dr. Evergreen! You're such an asshole!

"It's only temporary, you know that," Cameron said. His words were the truth, but how long is temporary? "You're just angry you won't get this ass for awhile." He winked. "Don't worry, I feel the same way."

My facial expression remained the same. "That's not why I'm angry. I'm angry because you'll be leaving me alone with Mrs. Summers the whole time you're gone. Who knows, once I become cougar-bait, I may never be the same."

A dark look came over Cameron's face. "I'll just have to make it clear to her that you're strictly property of Cameron West then."

"-And how do you plan on doing that?"

He chuckled. It wasn't his usual chuckle either. "You'll see," was all he said before entering the downtown police station. I really had a bad feeling about this.

“Exactly how bad is it?” I asked him. “You’re not being shipped off to traffic duty are you?”

Cameron rubbed the back of his neck. “Actually it’s something worse than that. I’m being temporarily transferred to Homicide Investigation.” My stomach dropped. “I even told them I have no experience with that type of field work, but they won’t take no for an answer.”

“But Cameron-”

“I don’t want to do it either, but it’s a mandatory transfer. I can’t change their mind unless I quit.”

Which he’ll never do. This job is what he lived for. It’s his purpose in life. Catching rapist, pedophiles, and other mentally damaged criminals. He wanted to catch them before they reached the point of taking a life.

And now he was being shipped off to the last department he wanted to go to. It was the stage after our department. What happened when our people failed.

“I’ll be fine,” he comforted while ruffling my hair. “Worry about yourself a little too, you know.”

I frowned. “I think I should be worried for you more, Cameron. It’s your gay-ass who’s being thrown to the lions.”

He blanched in fake hurt. “Oi. Don’t make it sound as if I’m gay for everyone. Just you.” He brushed the hair away from my ear, sending sexual chills down my spine. “And Leonardo Dicaprio.”

I playfully shoved him away. “As if Leonardo would want someone as idiotic as you.”

“Hmph. You’re right,” he laughed. “I guess it’s just you then.”
