After 2 long, tiresome hours, Ty, Brett, Carson, Cameron, and I finally trudged out of Mr. Dillets classroom. Bleary eyed and silent, we all made our way to the parking lot where our parents were waiting. Brett and I had to carpool in his car with his parents because we had to get to football. I'm not gonna lie, I was pissed at Brett. I know he just saved Lita's life but he didn't have to do it by kissing her. Now, Lita would be confused, before this she hated him for what he did, but now she would be confused about how to feel towards him and confused about what to do.
The car ride was dead silent, nobody spoke a word. Brett's parent were furious with both Brett and I. They wouldn't have been pissed, had it not been the first day of school and we were already getting into trouble. We finally pulled up to the field where the whole team was already stretching. Hopping out of the car, I said thank you to Mr and Mrs.Collins then sprinted over to the field and put my gear on.
We finished practice about two grueling hours later. Coach had taken Brett and I after practice and yelled at us. Saying stuff like 'you'll be kicked out if you do that again,' or my favorite 'how could you be such idiots as to get into trouble on the first day of school.' in the end it didn't really faze me. I could care less about being on the team, but if I got kicked off it would jeopardize my chances of a college scholarship. Therefore in the future, I would have to be more careful.
Brett clung to every word the coach said. Probably because football meant more to him than school but whatever. I didn't understand how he could focus on football after what happened merely hours before.
Brett chatted with some of the guys on the team for awhile while we waited for my mom to pick us up. I wasn't really one to make friends very easily, so I just kept to myself and sat on the sidewalk staring off into space. Brett finally came over after about ten minutes of waiting for my mom.
"Yo, Conner where's your mom? I've got to get home, so I can practice the football plays." Brett question barely even looking at me.
"I don't know she's probably running late from work." I said coldly.
"Dude, is something wrong? You haven't been acting yourself since practice started." Brett responded, putting a hand on my shoulder, which I quickly shook off, turning the other way as to not have to face Brett. My face soon turned red with anger. Of course, I couldn't blame Brett for what happened, he hadn't known, but he still should've never done that to Lita. Let alone right after her mother had died.
"What the hell is your problem?!" Brett exclaimed.
"I don't know Brett maybe you should figure it out!" I yelled back every second getting more and more pissed.
"Does this have anything to do with what just happened at school?" Brett said calmly.
"Wow, great job Brett finally able to figure something out. I would applaud you right now, but i'm too busy worrying about Lita." I bellowed back at Brett.
"Bitch please, do you really think I care about her. She's just an attention seeking whore." Brett shouted back his voice getting louder.
"You take that back right now. If she's an attention seeking whore you must be the dick that cheated on her. Oh wait, one of those is actually true can you guess which one... I know I can because the only attention seeking whore here is you." I screamed. After months of holding this in I could finally let anything and everything that pissed me off about Brett out and it felt great.
Brett couldn't take it anymore, he walked over and punched me straight in the face. I made a small oomph noise as I double over before straightening up and watched as Brett slowly stalked away.
"What! You're just gonna walk away like a coward. I can't believe I ever called you my friend. Turn around and face me you asshole!" I jeered standing up straight wiping the blood off of my face. Brett walked back in an even more pissed mood. Only to get kicked in the groin and then kneed in the face by me as I picked my backpack up and walked home until my mom picked me up off the street.
"What happened sweetie!?" My mom exclaimed as she caught sight of my mangled face.
"Brett happened." I replied plainly, throwing my backpack into the back of the car and hopping into the front seat.
"Did you two get in a fight again? What was it about this time?" My mother questioned.
"It was nothing mom. I don't want to talk about it." I said, pulling down the visor and looking in the mirror at my face.
"Okay, well I guess I won't pester you because I know you won't tell me in the end. Just make sure when you get home you put ice on it." She ordered.
"Yes mom." I answered, pulling my phone out.
I decided to text Sky. Oh, how I missed her voice over the summer.
Conner: Hey Sky how are you?
Skylar: I'm not okay. Today was the worst first day ever. I wish we didn't have to go to school.
I answered her immediately. Mostly I wanted to know what was wrong, but I also wasn't okay either.
Conner: Same here. Idk what I'm gonna do now. I have to cover up this stupid black eye.
Skylar: Wait! What?! How the hell did you get a black eye?
Conner: Brett and I got in a huge fight after football practice. In the end, I was mad that he had just kissed Lita because he just made her all confused about how she felt about him. And he was mad because if he didn't kiss her she would've died. And then I told him he was an asshole for doing what he did to Lita and then boom I get punched in the eye.
Skylar: Ouch! I'm sorry I wish I could help. I'm having the same problems over here with Lita. She thinks that nobody cares about her and we should've let her kill herself. So in the end, I stormed off and told her to not talk to me until she sorted her problems out.
Conner: How could she think we don't care when we just spent an hour trying to convince her not to kill herself? Maybe since we're both not talking to our friends, we should talk to each other. Like at school.
My heart was beating so fast. What if Sky noticed I liked her just from saying we should hang out at school. Crap. I'm screwed hopefully she doesn't catch that.
Skylar: Yeah sure! That sounds fun. At least we can ignore our friends together and not feel bad about it.
The sound of my heart pumping came to my ears. Sky wanted to hang out! I was freaking out on the inside, but on the outside I had to keep my chill in case my mom noticed. We finally arrived in the safety of my driveway. Thank gosh. Dinner time. I walk inside to the aroma of freshly cooked chicken and pasta. I slipped my backpack off and slid into a chair. Once we all sat down. My father said to turn in our phones and then we would all have to say grace. I, of course, had to say bye to Sky in case she thought I was just ignoring her.
Conner: Yeah well I better go eat some dinner. I'll talk to you some time later or tomorrow. ;)
Skylar: okay. Talk to you later. :)
After saying grace we were finally allowed to eat dinner. I took one look at the pasta and chicken on the table and then piled it onto my plate. The food was oh so delicious, and while I had finished in ten minutes, my parents and the twins took FOREVER. Finally after thirty minutes I was excused from the table and headed downstairs, where I had the whole basement to myself to sleep and play video games. After three long hours of playing videos I heard my phone buzz from across the room. FML it was Brett.
Brett: Hope you enjoy that lovely black eye.
At this point I knew Brett was probably drunk. Even if Brett was a dick he still had some sense and would never hit anybody or at least I hope he wouldn't hit anybody. I know he hit me out of anger, but that still gave him no reason to punch me.
Connor: Oh I will. At Least mine hurt less. Getting kicked right in the nuts. Might as well call me the nutcracker. Lol I crack myself up. Have fun with all those one night stands that you're not gonna have.;)
With that I shut my phone off. After a few minutes of rolling around in my bed it dawned on me that I forgot to say goodnight to Sky.
Conner: Good night Sky, you're looking beautiful tonight ;p.
Skylar: Goodnight Conner, I'll always be watching over you... Literally ;).
I smiled a little at this comment. Before sliding my phone under my pillow and rolling onto my side and drifting off into nothingness.
