I opened my eyes to a white room. The hum of the fluorescent lights filled the room. There I was, laying on a hospital bed. I looked down at my body in the horrendous white gown. There were sticky nodes covering my forearms and chest.
I'm in the hospital wing at headquarters.
"Ah. Welcome back sunshine." Vinny said, my doctor, as she was looking at my vitals.
I was glad to see a familiar face. Vinny has red hair with emerald green eyes, with a soft round face that is always inviting. With a smile that makes you want to immediately get to know her. Tall in a way of having a sophisticated demeanor about her. If she wanted to, she could model. She carried herself with such poise, that it is almost envious.
"How are you feeling?" She said.
"Ugh," I groaned.
I touched my neck. It was still stinging underneath the bandages that wrapped the wound.
"Let me unwrap that." Vinny spoke cheerfully.
She is always optimistic no matter the circumstances. That's what I like about her. Vinny has always been there for me, since the beginning. And to top it off she knows just what to do in any dire situation.
Adjusting her latex gloves, she gently unwrapped the gauze, one layer at a time and laid them on a tray to burned. After she was finished, she said something that stopped my heart.
"Well...." She said, uneasy like. As she took off her gloves.
Oh poop! Why the long face?!!!!
She covered her mouth with her hands.
"Your accelerated healing fixed you up nice!!!" She declared. As she busted out laughing!
"You nearly gave me a heart attack!!" I said.
Wow!! Just wow!!!
"YOU SHOULD OF SEEN YOUR FACE!!!" She cackled.
Funny. Real. Funny.
"Here's a mirror!" She chimed, as she handed me a mirror.
My neck looked practically normal. The only difference was a faint pink line on my neck, but that would go away in a couple of hours.
Lucky me...one of the perks of not being able to die.
"Looks good." I said as I handed Vinny back the mirror.
She put the mirror back in the cabinet but returned with something else in her hand.
"Sorry," she said with a twinge in her voice as she held up the familiar silver syringe. She tapped it three times. I sighed.
INFO: I have always needed the injections, for they make me who I am. If if I do not take them my body starts killing itself. They made me and they break me. Remember how I said I couldn't die? Well, the only thing that can kill me, is myself. The serum is called 000-000, and experimental procedure that was tested on civilians for enhancement. But instead my DNA bonded with the serum, mutating. The government saw this as an opportunity to use me as an asset. The injections, I have to constantly be taking. 4 times a day. On another note, the injections also keep my powers under control. Other wise I am no longer myself.
I held out my arm. Vinny stuck the cold needle into my wrist, she slowly injected the serum into my veins. As the liquid entered, it immediately started to get hot as it worked its way into my body. Instantly, I felt a thousand times better.
Vinny then put a little round bandaid on the injection site. I let out a chuckle, for it had little red hearts on it.
Apparently I need some loooovvvveee!
I took off the nodes and placed them on the side table. I turned my body to where my feet were dangling off the bed. My bare feet hit the linoleum floor, sending a slight chill radiating up my body. Some clothes had been laid out for me on a nearby chair. They were black cargo pants with grey sweater. On the side were my black combat boots.
I slowly moved over a slipped off the gown and gradually put on one item of clothing at a time. Ending with the lacing of my boots.
I looked up to see Vinny walking over to a tray that had been set aside, she grabbed something metallic.
"You had these in your hand when they brought you to us," she said.
She placed something cold, and smooth in my hand. They let out a tiny jingle.
They were the dog tags that I had grabbed off of Wink. Engraved on them was the name Jakein. I ran my thumb across the name.
Who are you???
I walked to the other side of the room towards the doorway. I could feel a slight ache radiating throughout my body.
I glanced back at Vinny.
"Thanks, for everything." I said as I gave a slight flick of my fingers.
"No problem girlie," she said in a twinkling voice. I walked down the concrete corridor. My boots echoing as they hit the floor. In the palms of my hands laid the dog tags.
Headquarters is built in a way that it is very unique in design with hundreds of testing-rooms and levels that circled the residential area/power rooms. (I mostly spend my time here or in the "cool room", AKA combat arena). The floors in the halls are made of concrete. Each room was made up of entirely of glass so that whatever was going on inside could be viewed on outside. I passed the "cool room". Inside were many cool "toys" that any killer, mortal, X, could fall in love with. From guns, to swords, combat simulations, sparring and power testing scenarios. I looked away for I really wanted to go and "play."
Focus! You'll be back later. But first you got to do this.
I was heading down to see the only one who could help me...
Ike.
