// DELANEY'S POV //
Blaze and I drove back to the house in a somewhat awkward silence. Awkward for him, not so much for me. Sure, maybe I went a little overboard and maybe I felt a little bad, but Blaze was putting it way out of proportion. He was giving me his ultimate silent treatment, which was basically completely ignoring my existence and occasionally looking over at me to give me an expression of combined disappointment and anger. This would blow over, I mean it had to, right? He says rude shit to me all the time, so why was it such a crime when I retaliated with something back. When we got back to the house Alec was still nowhere to be seen and so I headed straight toward my room, latching the door behind me and crashing onto my bed, mentally and physically exhausted. In the morning I woke up late, about 40 minutes after my alarm was supposed to go off. Despite my extra sleep, when I tried to spring out of bed in panic my head spun dizzily and I couldn't stand straight for a moment. Once I was somewhat awake I quickly scrounged through my closet, putting together some last minute shitty combo and deemed it good enough. I quickly covered and blended my foundation and applied mascara before grabbing my necessary belongings and leaving. First period was the strangest it's been in a while. Dead silence from Alec. It was like I didn't even exist on his radar and I found myself missing and longing for his constant banter and sexual jokes I'd become so accustomed to. My mind even began thinking about ways I could try and fix this, some way to apologize, I guess. That sounded ridiculous, though. I'm not the type of person that apologizes, mainly because I'm not the type of person that ever fucks up so there's nothing to apologize for. It felt weird, being iced out so coldly. The rest of the day I found myself trying to join in on conversations going on around me. Talking with somewhat friends or semi acquaintances to get rid of the unwanted feeling that had somehow crept deep into my bones. After lunch with Hayden and as the rest of the day progressed the feeling passed and I was alright. Hayden invited me out to lunch after school at our favorite restaurant, Chili's, and I definitely couldn't pass that offer up. Once the final bell rang and everyone dispersed from their classes and off of school grounds I made my way to the student lot. Hayden was waiting for me, leaning up against the chain fence that ran along the side of the lot. When she saw me approaching her she stood back up and met me halfway.
"Hey, ready to go?" she asked.
"Yep." I replied. I followed her to her blue 2010 civic and slid into the passenger seat. She started the engine and pulled off and I pulled up the directions on my phone. No matter how many times we'd been here Hayden always ended up getting lost and I found it easier for all of us if I had the directions handy ahead of time. It's not that she wasn't an amazing driver or anything, just absolutely horrible with direction. Sure enough, after a few minutes of driving Hayden looked around curiously back and forth, her universal signal for she had no idea where the heck she was going. I immediately took charge and guided here step by step until we were pulling into the parking lot. I followed her through the glass double doors and waited as she gave the hostess her name. She turned back to me and gestured for me to follow and I did as the lady led us to our table. We slid into the booths and began scanning through the menu after the hostess handed them to each of us and headed off.
"So, what's the latest with you and Alec?" Hayden asked, wriggling her eyebrows suggestively.
"What do you mean?" I questioned eyeing her, "nothing's the latest, whatever that means."
"Oh shut up and spill." She exclaimed, propping her elbows up onto the table and resting her chin the the palm of her hands. I sighed.
"Well, he kind of hates me right now, maybe, but it's no big deal. I'll figure something out, just drop it." I said brushing it off. She stared at me for a second and when I didn't say anything further she finally let it go, just as the waiter approached the table.
After our meal and mindless chit chat we took off on our separate ways. Hayden hopped back into her car and drove off, while I started heading the opposite way along the sidewalk toward my favorite record store. A couple of blocks of weaving in and out of the busy crowd the bright blue flashing sign came into view. I gripped the handle of the door and pulled the door open, immediately being hit by a wave of nostalgia that always came when I walked into this store. I gaze upon the racks upon racks of alphabetized genes. I stroll down the aisles, grazing my fingers along the various titles. Humming along to the music blaring through the speakers my fingers brushed against someone else's and I looked up, locking eyes with hazel ones. He scoffed.
"Hello to you, too." I said none too pleasantly.
"Are you following me? Because honestly that's just pathetic." He replied.
"Don't flatter yourself. If anyone's obsessed with you it's yourself." I spat.
"Sure, sweetheart." He said, rolling his eyes. I looked back down at where my hand still rested, clutching a CD and pulled it out of its place as Alec did the same with the one behind it. They were the same CD, We the Kings self-titled.
"Wow, you're music taste isn't completely awful, who knew?" Alec asked sarcastically.
"I could say the same to you." I replied. I decided to get the CD, so I made to leave toward the register.
"See you at home, princess!" Alec called after me. I flipped him off and kept walking, leaving him and that god awful smirk I knew was plastered across his face behind me.
