This town is quite old. The buildings are built all over the hills. The school on one hill, a series of shops on another, the university on another and residential areas on another. We have emergency services in the valleys.
And where ever there aren't buildings, there are trees.
Tall and beautiful. Lush green grass. Small white flowers.
This is the town of Hillwood.
I really don't have any friends. I simply go to school, bear the 6 hours I must spend there, then return home. I'm a good kid. I study hard. But when I'm not, I am outside in the woods.
My name is Tale. It means 'Green' in Egyptian. My parents went to Egypt for their honeymoon. They had so many adventures there, and they loved it so much, they named me after the little café near the place Tutankhamun was buried.
As you know so far, my days are spent unlike most girls at the age of 16. Other girls at my school dream big. Of landing a job in New York, getting lucky with a rich man in Las Vegas. They whinge and whine about the limited shops in Hillwood. Our school doesn't issue uniform. You should see the stuff they wear; all imported from America, France etc.
Then you have me; sporting denim jeans, and a washed out purple shirt. I have tough brown boots; perfect for climbing trees. That's the reason why no one's ever seen me wearing shorts; my legs get scratched by the bark.
Tale is the best name for me. Because you'll always see me hidden amongst the greenery of Hillwood.
But looks wise...not so much. Well...I guess my dark brown hair suffices for the bark of a tree. I have teal coloured eyes. I used to have blonde hair, but that was replaced with the dark brown by the time I was 5 years old.
I am incredibly small and thin for my age. I am the complete opposite of the Human Anatomy for females. I have no butt, no chest and as straight as a toothpick. No curves AT ALL. Lucky me.
Which results in my days also not only been spent studying, going outside and reading my stash of books under the trees on a carpet of grass...but also getting gum out of my hair, graffiti off my locker and re-doing homework that had been scrunched up.
I'm glad I'm not friends with boys and girls who'd shut a girl out simply because she's not into things they're, and doesn't look the way they look. Well, I certainly wouldn't want a permanent frown, long nose(to not just poke into other people's business, to jab more like), and nails like some wild cat from Africa.
But hey, I'm happy with this life.
Romance? I can read John Green and other books.
Comedy? I have my little brother Zeke, movies and the TV, plus MORE books.
Life Dramas? Once again, John Green, EVEN MORE books and movies PLUS the TV.
Yup. The days of I, Tale, the "Tree-Climbing flat-chested hobo", are spent; Studying, Reading, hanging out with the TV, and doing all the studying and reading stuff outside either in a tree or under one.
At least, those WERE the days...BEFORE I met Zoran.
