Ch. 18 // Gems

I relaxed on my back, but I started feeling really awkward as Hunter laid beside me. He slowly nodded off, falling asleep, and I didn't know what to do. I got up and dressed myself, and snuck out.

I walked back to my dorm, but I felt a little awkward there, and I didn't know if I could face Spring yet. I sighed, and wrote a note, and walked over to GoldWing with a change of clothes in my bag.

As I approached, I saw Mira standing outside talking to Ellie, so I walked over to them.

We started talking, but I noticed Mira's hair was somewhat messy, so I gently brushed it with my fingers and smoothed it out for her. She smiled and blushed, looking at me.

"Ellie!" I heard an unfamiliar voice say.

A dog girl with a cute boyish figure appeared, walking towards us in a red crop top with a sly grin. She walked right between Mira and I, and up to Ellie.

"Hey Sapphire!" Ellie replied.

"Hey Sapphy," Mira said sweetly. She looked, but didn't reply.

At first I found it quite rude to outright ignore Mira, but I saw that her face appeared flustered. She likes Mira?

"Sapphire, this is Neko. Neko, this is Sapphire," Ellie said. "She's on Redpaw's rugby team!"

"That's right! This pony is my rival!" She replied playfully.

"Nice to meet you," I said.

She looked me up and down, and stepped closer. "You're a pretty little kitten aren't you?"

"Th-thank you," I stammered out, feeling shy.

She glanced at Mira, her cheeks going red, then back at me. "Are you two... Together?"

"uhh, no, no we're not! Why?" I replied.

"That's good to hear," she said with a wink. I could see Mira getting agitated from the corner of my eye.

"Sapphire!" A dog girl called. "We're gonna be late for dinner!"

She made a face and sighed. "I'll have to talk to you some other time then, Kitty cat, I'm pretty hungry, though," she leaned in really close and whispered in my ear, "I bet you taste better than anything at RedPaw!"

She skipped away with a grin and a spring in her step, and I caught myself staring at her big, round butt as she left.

Mira scowled. "What a little-"

"Now now," Ellie cooed. "She's just a little energetic!"

"Yeah yeah," Mira huffed.

"Oh, I wanted to talk to you two about-"

"hey everyone!" spring approached, interrupting me.

I couldn't look her in the eyes as she greeted everyone. I was still awkward around her. She noticed how down I looked, and grabbed my shoulder, but I pushed her away without thinking.

"Neko?" She said. "Are you ok?"

"I'm fine, I'm just tired. I need to... Mira, you and I were going to go try on pants, right Mira?" I lied.

She looked at me confused, then she stammered out "uhh yeah! Yeah, we were!"

"Yeah, let's go to your room!" I insisted.

"Can I come?" Spring asked.

I stuttered and stammered, trying to think of something to say.

"My roommate is a little strict about having guests, sorry!" Mira said suddenly, saving me.

"Oh, ok," Spring replied, her voice sounding dejected. "Well, have fun I guess."

Mira and I nodded and rushed inside GoldWing house. As we walked to Mira's dorm, she asked me "What was all that about?"

I sighed. "I found out she's been sleeping with my brother and... I don't have a problem with it but it's just, I don't know how to feel about it and they were hiding it from me and I'm just so confused! And I'm upset that she never told me!"

Mira nodded. "I understand, she should have told you, it was wrong to hide it. But I don't think Spring meant to hurt you, Neko. Maybe she wanted to tell you, or maybe she was scared that you might get mad?"

"You're right... But I just.. I don't know. I need some space right now. Do you mind if I sleep in your room tonight?"

She blushed. "You-you can sleep with me if you want, the beds are big enough."

I stopped and hugged her tightly. "Thanks Mira, really."

We walked to her room, and I met her roommate Raven. I skipped dinner, and afterwards I fell asleep next to Mira in her bed.

I woke up to a loud banging on the door.

Mira and I both sat up, groggily, while someone unlocked and opened the door. I checked the clock. 3 a.m.

Coach came into the room and Mira, Raven and I started to panic. We're so busted!

"Mira, Neko, have you seen Ray at all? Is she here?" He asked.

We shook our heads.

"You had better come with me."

I gulped.

Did something happen?
