Connor.
Piled into two cars, both of our families drive to an Italian restaurant in downtown LA. Buth if our families have been in Los Angeles for a few days and tonight we're celebrating Troye's birthday a few days late. For unknown reasons and for a chance to 'talk to us', I ended up in the car with Troye's family and Troye is in the car with my family. What could possibly go wrong?
"To be honest I'm afraid to talk cause I'll end up with an accent if I do." I joke with them as soon as we pull out of our driveway. Shaun is driving since he got an international drivers license for the week. I'm next to Laurelle in the back seat and Sage and Tyde are in the way back while Steele sits up front.
"So have you guys been talking about moving in together?" Laurelle asks me and I take a deep breath. Here we go.
"We've been talking about it yeah. Nothing's too official."
"Well Troye's apartment is lovely and I'm sure yours is too. Perfect for the two of you." Sage says from behind me.I lean forward and give Shaun the next directions to the restaurant so we don't get lost. My family is driving behind us and I can't help but wonder what they're talking about with Troye.
"So if I remember correctly, you're 22?" Laurelle asks and I nod.
"Yes I am. I'll be 23 in September."Sage, Tyde, and Steele all glance at me with confused looks at the fact that I'm older than all of them.
"And how old are your siblings?"
I have to think for a second to remember how old they are.
"Dustin is 26, Nicola is 24, and Brandon is 20.""Sage wants to know if Brandon is single." Tyde says from behind me and Sage screams.
"Tyde! I didn't say that! I have Zac remember?"
"You might as well have said it. I saw how you were looking at him." Tyde wiggles his eyebrows suggestively at the comment and Sage groans louder. Both Shaun and Laurelle laugh at the mini argument occurring and Steele just glances back at me and back at Sage and Tyde. Normal arguments like these happened in my house all of the time when all of us still lived there.
"The restaurant's right there." I point to a building ahead and Shaun pulls into the parking lot.The car stops and my family and Troye pull in next to us in the parking lot. As I hop out of the car and wait for everyone else, Sage walks past me.
"Oh and Sage," Sage looks behind at me at the mention of her name, "B's single and ready to flamingle."Troye rejoins with me and grabs my hand.
"How embarrassing was my family?" I ask with a laugh and he smiles.
"Probably not as embarrassing as mine. Your parents just talked with me about the normal shit you'd talk about with your child's lover." Troye bends down and presses a light kiss to my lips."Hey we get you guys are in love but can we please go eat?" Brandon and Tyde both groan in unison and Troye and I laugh. I grab Troye's hand, all of us walking inside the restaurant in a group. We approach the hostess and she ushers us to our large table in a side room.
The twelve of us sit down all together with the adults sitting down on one end of the table and the kids on the other side.
We all begin to talk and once drinks are delivered for us all, I lift my drink into the air.
"To one of my favorite Australians getting one year closer to being able to actually drink. I love you Troyeboy." Troye smiles as we all take a sip of our drinks and a smile erupts on his face. After we place our dinner orders, I reach underneath the table and pull out a small box.
"The final part of your present." Troye grabs the box hesitantly but pops the top off of the box and pulls back the tissue paper. With a confused look on his face, Troye pulls out a notebook. It's a plain brown leather cover and when he opens it up, he looks at it confusedly before he begins to read. I see his eyes skim the page over before he brings his hand up to his mouth in shock and pulls me into a hug.
"Thank you." He says the words into my shoulder and I turn my head and kiss his cheek."What is it Tokkie?" Laurelle asks Troye, and he opens up the journal again. Troye clears his throat and begins to read.
"January 7th, 2014. Today, I met Troye. He has large eyes like a meerkat and they are as blue as the ocean. His hair is curly, the good kind, and rests on his forehead. When he opens his mouth to speak, a low mix of Australian and South African accents comes out.His laugh is melodic and instantly puts a smile on my face. I've known Troye for just a few short hours but I'm already crushing hard. He sings and he writes songs and he has the same artsy endeavors as me. I'm glad I have a friend now. Who knows maybe I'll find something more than a friend eventually. I mean, if he's gay of course. Wish me luck."
Troye smiles down at the page and turns the page.
"It's my journal. I wrote down everything that happened between Troye and I in the past near year and a half. There's pictures and stuff too. I figured that Troye can add to it now too." I smile as Troye passes the journal to his mom and she begins to go through it, skimming and looking at the pictures."Aww here's Valentine's Day!" She exclaims and Troye looks at me with a nervous glance. When I said I wrote down everything I meant everything. Laurelle suddenly stops reading and closes the journal, passing it along to my parents and shoots us a glance as if to say, 'We Get It You Guys Frickle Frackled'.
Once everybody has seen the journal, Troye and I both making sure nobody else reads about our Valentine's Day festivities, the adults all lift their glasses.
"We'd like to propose a toast," We do as Shaun says and all raise our glasses, "To family and to all of us being here to celebrate Troye's birthday.""To family."
