"I got the job!" "I got the job!" I screamed. I ran downstairs and made my way straight to the kitchen where I knew my mom would be. " Alhamdulillah Samirah" she said with a wide smile running through her face. I could tell she was very tired, yet content. "when do you start?" She asked me cutting up potatoes. "Thursday InshaAllah" I replied. It was my first ever job and I was so excited, maybe even too excited. I was doubting the fact that I'd even get the job because of my hijab and way of dressing. But the manager told me how she loved my resume, and not to mention personality. And they would have no problem making accommodations for me pertaining the dress code. I then immediately grabbed my phone and began dialing Aminahs number.
We spoke some time after that and later invited me to her home which was about 10 minutes away.Aminahs room was a decent size, and looked pretty.. different from the last time I've seen it which was less than a month earlier. She seemed to have more things in her room, and added a vanity desk just like mine, but only bigger. It was decked with muji drawers alongside with high end makeup that was neatly placed on the vanity. Aminah didn't have a job, but there was no question on my mind how she got all of these things.
"you like my new desk"? She asked. "I finally have a better way to store all this makeup now". " I love it, almost looks as good as mine" I joked taking a seat on her chair. " So, who bought all this for you?" I asked already knowing damn well it was Harim. She fell back on her bed and kept smiling. "Do I really need to tell you? She laughed and I laughed too. "Nah you don't. I already know" I replied. " you know, I was thinking about what you told me a while ago, about marriage. I asked Harim today, when he's finally gonna settle down with me." She said. Her voice became lower and she sat up. "Well, what did he say?" I asked. I was curious as to what Harim said this time. "He isn't ready now so he told me as soon as he finishes school, which will be in about 2 years or so. He's majoring in business so..." I immediately cut homegirl off. " Aminah that's some bull and you know it. What is the point of him even dating you? Is it a warmup for the real thing?" I was annoyed at Aminah. She was more delusional than I had thought. I knew despite Harim saying this, she'd still wait for him. Even if it where 20 years she had to wait. There was then a silence in the room. Normally when Aminah and I argue, she's never this quite, unless I'm right which was majority of the time. I hate being the friend who seems too religious and brings religion all the time, but I had to drop some knowledge on Aminah real quick.
