When Laura Tomlinson and Adam Driver first met, she was singing open mic night at his favorite bar. She'd been a huge fan of his for a while, having seen every episode of 'Girls' ever. And even though she tried to play it cool, they somehow managed to lock eyes, covers of Ellie Goulding still flowing flawlessly from her mouth and her fingers playing her six strings meticulously.
Laura remembers blushing. Soon after her gig was up Adam introduced himself. Adam remembers the day they became close, close friends. So close that they basically became as inseparable as him and as unfortunately, his fiancé.
And all of this brings us to now, the day of Adam and Joanne's wedding, the day Laura is forced to let go of this childish infatuation with Adam. Oh who the fuck is she kidding? She's in love with him, completely and utterly in love with him! There is nothing childish about it. So she had made a plan. A plan to confess her love towards Adam as discreetly as possible, and having been asked by him personally to sing at his wedding definitely had it's perks.
And oh was she going to sing.
She was going to sing a song she wrote that made everything as clear as it possibly could be made to him. She had entitled it 'Give Me Love'.
Laura sighed quietly, remembering the plan perfectly, though the pain of knowing the song would never effect Adam in the way she wished still lingered there in the back of her mind. She doesn't even mean any harm towards him or his now wife...but there was always that gut feeling that she was somehow more deserving of Adam's love than Joanne ever would be. And that thought alone was enough to give her the strength to go through with the plan.
A few seconds later, a light knock on the door was heard, a soft yet unmistakably deep voice following soon after the door to her dressing room creaked open.
"Laura honey...are you ready yet?" Adam spoke.
"As ready as I'll ever be." Laura replied, holding her head up with her hands, her elbows resting on the vanity before her and her mournful eyes targeting Adam's through the mirror.
"You okay?" He asked, noticing the sadness in her voice rather quickly.
"Yep...just can't believe it's actually happened. My best friend is married!"
"I know right? I guess time flies when you're in love." Adam winked at her.
Laura's cheeks reddened at the sight, secretly afraid Adam already knew about her love for him.
"Now c'mon, let me see that dress."
Thankful for the distraction, Laura stood up and untied the belt to her white silk robe, pushing it off her body and letting it fall to the floor. Underneath hid a beautiful floor length short-sleeved black satiny dress, black rhinestones covering the entire expanse of her chest. Adam's face lit up at the sight of the clothing piece and he motioned for her to twirl. She did so, giggling lightly.
"Absolutely beautiful." He noted, his voice sounding quiet and hushed.
"Oh stop it Addy." Laura blushed, Adam's soft voice chuckling at the nickname Laura had given him the night they met.
"Let's go weirdo, the reception can't go on without your beautiful voice lulling us to bliss."
Laura gasped and hit him lightly on his arm, knowing he was being both sarcastic and serious. Adam stuck his tongue out playfully, laughing loudly afterwards, making his voice echo throughout. Laura rolled her eyes smiling, grabbing onto Adam's arms for support as she slid on her heels. His arms wrapped around her and his big hands settled on her waist to help steady her, warming her skin underneath the dress. She looked to her side bashfully. But the resulting effect meant her right foot stepped on her heel rather than in it and she fell forward, her head bumping against his chest. He chuckled lightly and his left hand came up to hold her there, his fingers brushing through her hair.
