Chapter Ten

Breathing unevenly, I kinda just sat there, unsure of what to do.

Alex motioned his hand towards me, "Hey, follow me."

I raised an eyebrow, "To where....?"

Rolling his eyes, he gave me that sexy smirk that made my heart melt every time I saw it, "Well, it is my job to give you a tour of the Land of Autumn, so that's exactly what we're going to do. Nothing else."

At the mentioned nothing else, my heart sunk just a little bit, but I shook it off. Who the hell cares, anyways.

You do, a small voice whispered obnoxiously to me.

Shut up! I quickly retorted.

Realizing I must've looked like an idiot, sitting there thinking to myself, I smiled, "Sounds great."

"Then let's get going."

I swatted at a branch in my air, leaving a slight red welt on my arm.

"Dammit, Alex! Why the hell do I have to touch all this nature for?!" I asked irritably. I hated hiking. But then again, I wasn't athletic so I had a hard time keeping up with him.

He just shook his head and kept going, not even bothering to look back to see if I was keeping up.

"Stupid trees...stupid grass...stupid leaves....stupid nature..." I grumbled to myself as I, once again, swatted a branch that had somehow appeared right in front of my face.

This land sure was getting a kick out of watching my misery.

So focused on my feet and trying not to fall over, I head-butted Alex in the back, making him grunt in surprise and slightly fall forward. 

That was so not smooth and so klutzy I swear I'm gonna kick myself.

I fell over to my side, falling on the soft, earthy ground with a quiet thud.

Hearing a sigh, I looked up and seeing Alex made my jaw drop.

His hand was extended, his signature smirk plastered on his face. Except this time, it was half a real smile, making his face lighten up and the corners of his eyes crinkle slightly. The sun had created a golden halo around his head, making his dark brown hair glow with gold streaks and red tints. His electric blue eyes had sharpened, making them more alive and more vibrant than ever before.

Trying not to look too much like an idiot, I clamped my mouth shut and took his extended hand. The momentum of my body being pulled up led me straight into Alex's strong chest. Laying my head just under his collarbone, I enjoyed the feel of his warm body against mine, while breathing in his sweet, peppermint smell. 

Alex stiffened, surprised to see such a gentle show of affection from me. I mean after all...we had been insulting each other non stop, and our make out sessions weren't exactly gentle.

However, he relaxed, and folded his arms around mine, gently kissing the top of my head before resting his chin there. Closing my eyes, I felt his steady heartbeat, the way his chest moved up and down with each breath he took, and how his arms were soothingly rubbing my back in small circles.

"I'm sorry I made you fall," was the whispered murmur, muffled by my hair.

I didn't say anything, trying to savor the moment, make it last forever.
