You Have…

This was it. Summer had ended and Senior Year had replaced it. Summer had been an absolute blast. I’d spent every minute of it with Will and my girls. Will was my boyfriend. Will Grayson. He was the boy who, somehow, made me fall in love with him. According to my girls I was ‘love-struck’ all through the summer.

My girls are my crazy BFFs who know absolutely everything about me there is to know. They go by the names of Arianna and Quinn.  I’ve known Arianna, Anns for short, since I was 4 years old. She was my next door neighbour and therefore we spent every single minute of childhood together. I know her like the back of my hand and she knows me just the same.  Quinn joined our group the first day of Sophomore year and it didn’t take us too long to become sisters.

Today was the first year of Senior Year and there were only 2 ways to go about it. One, you could try to blend in with everyone- pretend it’s just another high school day, following the same regular pattern as always. Or option two, try to be someone this year-make yourself popular and known to everyone in the school, be someone you’re not.

Me and my girls had decided to go with the first option. It will be hard; especially when everyone wants to make their popular groups even bigger, but we’d decided to give it a go. It would be hardest for me as I was dating Will. He was well known, by everyone in the school, and was the leader for one of the popular groups so he might drag me into it.

Whatever were to happen today, you could bet your life that you would be judged on your clothing therefore you had to dress well. I didn’t want to look too dressed up but I wanted to show that I had put some effort in. I had pulled on my dark denim skinny jeans and a plain white t-shirt, simple and comfy, but I had to dress it up a little. I wrapped a red scarf round my neck and a few bracelets to my wrists and a couple rings to a few random fingers. After I blow-dried my hair I straightened it and put it up in a high ponytail, I preferred it when my hair was up and out of my face, I had never worn my hair down to school before. For the past three years it was in a constant ponytail, except for weekends. I applied my usual cosmetics, lightly, to my face and was now satisfied with how I looked.

I slipped a pair of low wedge; low cut grey boots on over my ankle socks and exited my room. I was glad it wasn’t my day to pick up the girls; otherwise I wouldn’t have had time for breakfast. I was always last stop anyway so I had a while before Quinn would be here with Arianna. We three car pooled together, which was useful sometimes but a bit of hassle other times.

The kitchen was quite, like it was every morning, my parents were workaholics and worked away from home most of the time. So it was just me in my house all day; all night whenever they weren’t here. I had just finished my slices of toast when I heard Quinn beep her horn from outside. I placed the bowl in the sink before grabbing my grey leather jacket and bag and running out the house. I locked the front door before jumping into the backseat of her mini cooper.

“Morning girlie, you ready?” She asked looking at me threw her rear view mirror. I looked over at Arianna who was fidgeting with her hands. I titled my head in Arianna’s direction and Quinn automatically picked up on what I was thinking. “Nerves” She finalized for me. I don’t know why people, well girls, got so worried about the first day of school. I didn’t.

“Let’s kick some high school ass” I say trying to reassure both of them that today wouldn’t be anything we couldn’t handle. I was a little worried about Arianna; she didn’t do well under peer pressure and today would be tough for her.

A quick 15 minutes passed before our school finally came into view. The car park was expectedly busy with approximately 100 cars parked already. There were students everywhere. At the main doors, on the grass, still in their cars… Everywhere! Automatically my eyes started scanning the parking lot for Will’s car; once we were out of the car and heading towards the school.
