“Come on, Lani! You have to get up!” Emerald squealed excitedly, attempting to pull me from the most amazing thing I had ever experienced – sleep.

“Eh! I’ll get up soon! Five more minutes!” I mumbled through my pillow, rolling onto my stomach and resting my arms under the white material.

“Yeah, yeah. Five minutes’ll turn into ten minutes, and that’ll turn into an hour, etcetera, etcetera. You see the problem?” Emerald had released me... Momentarily. Soon, she had a grip on my ankles, and was trying to pull me out of bed, feet first, nearly succeeding.

“I see no problem! Just let me sleep, woman! Are you crazy or something?!” I grabbed the top edge of the bed and attempted to pull myself back onto the bed, so I wouldn’t have to get up, but Em was determined.

“Tim! We need your help over here!” she exclaimed, aiming her head toward the door so that it would travel further.

“No! We don’t need any help! I don’t need any help! I’ll get up soon enough!”

Our argument lasted a little while longer, before Tim walked in and began helping Em get her way – with me off of the bed and getting ready for school

Mumbling in dissatisfaction, I walked over to my drawers. I had school today and I was not really interested in going... At all.

“Why are you so keen on me going to school, anyway?” I asked, sounding hung-over and walking into my bathroom with clothes I was going to wear to school, before Emerald stopped me.

“Uh, today is your date! And you are not wearing that,” she explained, pulling the clothes from my grip and shuffling through my wardrobe to find something more ‘suitable’. Finally, she came back with a tight, black singlet and denim pants, complemented by a pair of ballet flats.

“Heh, there is absolutely no w-,” I began, before she shot me one of the evillest glares I had ever seen. Only got me a little scared... Just a little...

“You are wearing this! I don’t care what you say; you need to get his attention, and if he thinks you lot hot today, then tonight will be even better!” Emerald’s excitement worried me a bit. Why did she want me so dolled up?

I remained quiet as I hesitantly made my way into the bathroom, staring awkwardly at Em out the corner of my eye, watching as she, herself, stared at me making my way to the bathroom.

“Do you mind? This is just a little worrying... You know, with you... Uh... Standing there... Like that.” I stopped in my tracks and turned to face her, a solemn expression plastered on my face as a wide grin erupted on Emerald’s.

“No, I don’t mind! I’m waiting for you to get changed to I can decide whether it’s suitable or not!” Oh god, this is fantastic. Honestly, why was she so bloody interested in what I was wearing?! No, no, I couldn’t say anything. I had to just keep all comments in my mind, and only in my mind.

When I eventually emerged from the bathroom, Em was still standing before me, smiling creepily, her eyes lighting up when she saw me. The thought of that moment actually sent an eerie chill down my back.

“Yep, you look fine,” she spoke, decreasing the intensity of her smile and nodding. The scariness of her expression, however, remained locked inside of my mind. I grinned slightly before awkwardly making my way toward my own door, Emerald still staring at me.

“Stop it! It’s scary...” I rushed out of the room, thankful that I wouldn’t have to worry about her intimidating... smile? And just when I thought I had escaped the worst of things, I ran into Tim – the worst made worse.
