A couple days earlier
I was sitting with Shope, Kevin, Tyler and Roach at lunch when I overheard them talking about a sleepover this weekend. It got me thinking, I've never been to a sleepover in my life before. In fact I've never even had a play date before. I've never really had friends in the past.
"Oh Nicole, we were wondering if you'd like to join us this weekend for a sleepover. You don't seem to hang out with anyone else." Shope asked me. I was not sure how to answer, so I thought up something after a moment of thinking.
"Uh, s-sure. I'll have to ask my parents though." I answered, that most certainly could've came out much, much smoother.
"Great, it's a Tyler's house. How do you feel about sleeping on the floor?" She asked me.
I smiled and shrugged, "Anywhere is fine as long as I have a blanket and a pillow." I say laughing lightly after my statement. They all let out a bit of a laugh of my statement. I've never had friends before, well at least not friends that really cared about me. They always tried finding ways to humiliate me in front of people.
I went home and asked my parents about it, they looked at each other, then at me, and then at each other once again.
"Of course you can!" My mother cheered. She must've been pretty happy I actually made some friends.
My dad smiled, he looked proud and it made me feel good inside.
Present day
I packed everything that I would need, pyjamas, toothbrush, pillow, phone charger and my plush cat, Shamrock. I e had her since I was two years old and up until today she's been my only real friend.
I began walking over to where they told me Tyler lived, my bag over my shoulder. I was really nervous. I didn't know what to expect from this. If it would be like they were on the movies, or the Internet. It neither and it was something completely new. I was shaking, maybe this was a bad idea. No! Nicole, you can't back out now.
I arrived at the house and walked up to the front door and knocked. Tyler's mother was the person who answered.
"Tyler! Another friend of yours is here!" She yelled. "So who are you?" She asked.
"Oh I'm Nicole, I'm fairly new to the town." I say nervously.
"Well nice to meet you Nicole, I'm glad my son and his friends brought you into their group. Especially another girl." She said smiling. I smiled back and then she let me inside as Tyler arrived upstairs.
"Hey Nicole, come on everyone else is downstairs" Tyler said motioning towards the basement. I waved to his mother and then followed him down. I saw that they were playing video games, I put my bag beside the couch and sat down beside Shope. I didn't recognize the game they were playing, mostly because the only games I own are the apps on my cellphone. Let's just say there were giant squirrels and shooting. The graphics were pretty good though and I enjoyed watching them play.
"Would you like a turn?" Shope offered me the controller.
"Uh, I don't know how to play..." I said. She gave me the controller anyways and a brief explanation on what did what and then the round started. I died almost immediately, a phew times. I started getting the hang of it eventually and beat the Roach in one round....not Tyler and Kevin though. They've definitely played longer than me. I gave the controller back to Shope, who won right after, and I was content with watching. This kept going for awhile and it did get a little bit boring after a bit of time. I pulled out my phone and started playing games on that for a little before someone else decided they had played enough of this game. Which I eventually learned was called Battle Nutz 4. It was big about a half a month ago I now recall.
The game got turned off and then there was some visiting, then a terrifying game was suggested.
"We should play truth or dare, I mean it's a good way to get to know a person right?" The Roach suggested, they all looked at me when he said someone new. I fatally refrained from objecting to this game and it started.
"Nicole, Truth or Dare?" Kevin asked. An almost devious grin on his face.
"Uh, truth." I mumbled.
"What's your favourite part about about Cornbury so far?" He asked, thank goodness. Not near as bad as I was expecting to be.
"Uh, probably making some friends." I answered, it was the truth. I've never had friends before and it was amazing to finally have some.
The game went on for awhile and then I noticed the pace changed from friendly and fun to personal and somewhat embarrassing. I was frightened.
"Nicole, truth or dare?" The Roach asked me. I had been doing truth the whole time so I figured maybe dare would be good idea. Psht no way was that a good idea.
"I dare you to dance to this song." He said pulling a stereo out of his hair and started playing a fairly catchy tune. I slowly stood up, slightly terrified, but started to dance none the less. I did a few classic freestyle moves to the beat. My parents have always told me I'm good at just feeling the rhythm but I don't really believe them.
He turned the song off after like a minute and a half and the small group gave a bit of an applause and then I sat down, blushing quite a lot.
"Hey you aren't bad at dancing, too bad you weren't around for that song and dance contest." Shope said. I smiled shyly.
At around 8:30pm Tyler's mom told us it was time to get ready for bed. Shope and I went to change into our pyjamas in the bathroom while the guys changed in the main room. We then had popcorn while watching a movie, brushed out teeth and set up for the night of sleep. I had a sleeping bag on the other side of the coffee table beside Shope while the guys had the other side all three of them next to each other. Shope told me she was normally on the couch but didn't want all the way on the other side of the table alone. I thanked her.
We all visited while in bed for awhile and then the boys went to sleep. Shope and I were still awake and we talked for a bit longer.
"It's sure nice to have another girl in the group, three boys can become a bit of a handful at times." She whispered.
"I'm just happy you guys are all so nice to me....I-I've never really had a real friend before." I mumbled quietly, feeling kind o embarrassed.
"Well you're out friend, and we've got your back Nicole." Shope whispered before saying goodnight and falling asleep.
I was awake for awhile after she fell asleep. I couldn't fall asleep, there was so much on my mind. I was just really happy to finally have friends. Especially with a group so nice. On that note, the tranquility of the night and comfort of having friends, I managed to drift into a peaceful sleep.
Author's Note
The picture is her sleep attire, hope you're enjoying this so far. The chapters are sort of going along like a new episode each chapter but it won't stay that way the whole time. The deeper story will start when she gets a major breakthrough for her blog, most likely won't happen until she's well adjusted to her new home.
