Chapter 4

~Lyn's pov~

"Lyn?" Mom called out from the kitchen door.

"I'll be right back," I told Minho who nodded. I went inside the kitchen to find my mom setting the table for dinner. "Let me help you with that, ma." She handed me the silverware needed and I distributed them easily. After the table was fixed, mom placed the cooked Pininyahang Manok on the table. It smelled yummy.

"Why don't you get Minho while I fetch the rice?" Mom asked and I nodded.

I went back to the living room and saw Minho browsing channels on the tv. Since To The Beautiful You is over, I didn't mind. "Yah, Minho! Dinner's ready," I said.

"Shall I grab these to the sink?" he asked, pointing to the empty plate and glasses where there once was mom's cookies and juice.

"Nah, I'll take care of that later,"

I went back inside the dining area, Minho following me shortly, and sat down. Mom was already seated in front of me. "Take a seat, Minho so we could have dinner." Mom said. Minho then quietly sat beside me and smiled.

That smile, I swooned silently. I could definitely fall in love with that.

Mom made Minho take the first serving but Minho wasn't sure how. "You don't have service spoons? Or soup cups?"

Mom chuckled. "Lyn and I always serve the exact amount of meal of food on the table. We don't use service spoons because it's additional work on the dishes. As for the soup cup," mom turned her gaze towards me and I caught her signal.

"Here, Minho. Let me show you," I said. On Minho's plate was plain rice. I topped it off with the Pininyahang Manok's creamy sauce and placed the chicken beside his rice. I then put the pineapple chunks and carrots beside the chicken and voìla!

"Wow, this looks amazing!" Minho exclaimed. "I'll eat it well."

Mom and I didn't dare to take a bite until we saw Minho's reaction to the food. It was an infamous recipe by mom and only few people ever tasted it.

Minho's eyes widened at his very first bite of Pininyahang Manok. "Wow, Mrs. Kim. This is very yummy! I never thought pineapple could be made as a main dish," he said with a smile. "I'll eat well."

Mom and I started eating as well, smiling and enjoying as we watch Minho eat so much. It was obvious Minho loves the dish that when his phone rang, he almost didn't wanna pick it up.

"Aren't you gonna pick it up?" Mom asked him.

"Ani. I'm still eating," he smiled. The ringing stopped but then was followed by a different ringtone shortly afterward. Probably a text message, I thought.

When he's done eating, he fished for his phone and checked his missed call and message. He suddenly frowned, making me feel worried.

"Is something wrong?" I asked.

Minho looked up and saw me and my mom's worried look. He smiled, "None. I just have to go and find some place to stay for a while. I think I should go. Thanks a lot for the food."

The thought of Minho leaving already saddened me. I don't know why but I wanted to somehow get to know him more.

"If you're looking for a place to stay, then why not here?" Mom's question got me by surprise that I almost spit my rice.

"Really?" I asked.

"Really?" Minho also asked.

"Really." Mom said. Then, all of a sudden, the room seemed to be brighter once more.

"Is it okay with you, Lyn?" Minho turned to me, a hopeful expression on his face. I tried to bit back my smile. Why wouldn't it be? I wanted to say but instead I nodded. "Kamsahamnida. I promise I won't be a burden."

"I know you won't," mom replied. "Besides, this house is getting boring and all with only Lyn here. I think with you here, life's gonna be a little more...interesting." Mom winked at me. I did my best not to blush and she laughed as she got up and started cleaning the table.

"Let me do that, Mrs. Kim. As a sign of gratitude." Minho said.

"Ayaya. Okay okay. Lyn, you help him, okay?"

I grunted. It's not like I have a choice.

Minho gathered all the dirty dishes and placed them all on the sink. I folded up my sleeves (since I was wearing a long sleeve blouse) and tied my hair up before washing the dishes.

Mom came in and leaned on the wall near me. "Where's Minho?" she asked.

"Wiping the table clean." I answered.

She gave me a nod saying she understood before stopping to look at me. "You look different, Lyn."

I was confused. "Different? How?"

"I don't know. You just look.. blooming since he came around."

"Mom," I said, facing her. "I'm always blooming because I'm happy with you. It just seems like I'm happier cause who wouldn't be when you're favorite kpop star is under the same roof as you?"

She looked at me wearily. "Are you sure he's just your favorite kpop star? You don't like him the way you liked Jay?"

Unbelievable. "Mom, I only knew Minho for like an hour ago? He's nice and all but I don't fall so easily. Remember the last time I fell in love? It hurts. So bad. And I don't wanna feel the same way again."

From the look on mom's face, she still doesn't wanna believe me but she decided to drop it off. "I just saw the way your eyes sparkle when you look at him. He might be nice and all but I still don't want you crying over him. I don't wanna see you cry over a guy again."

I remember the day I broke up with Jay. I went home crying and mom didn't know what to do. She got carried away by my tears that she cried with me that night. Both of us were cheated by the guy we loved. We felt each other's pain and held each other's hand. That was the night we swore we would never cry for the same guy again.

"I know my limits, ma. He's a popstar, I'm a no one. I've learned not to hope so it's okay. I got this."

Mom smiled and put an arm around my shoulder. "I know you do," she said as she kissed my forehead before leaving the kitchen.

Left alone, I resumed doing the task at hand. It's not wrong to befriend an idol, right? I thought to myself. As long as you know your limitations. I thought about Minho. How we laughed awhile ago and how we talked. It all seems bizarre. Who knew I'd be lucky enough to meet Choi Minho? Let alone, be his friend?

As if on cue, Minho entered the kitchen carrying the cloth he used to wipe the table clean.

"I've never done anything like this before. Cleaning up, I mean," he said.

"Why? Because you famous people have helpers to clean up after you right?" I smirked.

"Yeah but we help out a bit too, you know." he said, trying to defend himself.

"Whatever." I rolled my eyes then smirked.

"Aish. Why don't you let me help you with that so you could finish up early?" he said. I smiled and moved aside, sharing the small space with Minho. He picked up a sponge and a plate and scrubbed. We both worked quietly. But then I got bored so I decided to mess with Minho. "Yah!" he exclaimed when soapy water hit his chest.

I giggled.

Minho stared at his now wet shirt as I continued to giggle. He looked at me with amazement in his eyes as he smirked evil, "you're gonna pay, Lyn!" With the glass at hand, he scooped a glass- full of soapy water from the sink and poured it all on my head.

"Aaargh!" was all I said as he burst out laughing. Oh it's on, Choi Minho. I said to myself before grabbing a glass, scooping a glass-full of soapy water, and splashing them all on Minho.
