Chapter 25

~Lyn's pov~

From: Onew the Chicken King

If you can't fall asleep, close your eyes and imagine chickens jumping over a fence!

I almost laugh out loud at Onew's reply. Who would imagine chickens jumping over a fence to lull yourself to sleep? I silently laughed at how childish Onew is. He's actually childish for his age and I find that...cute. All he ever did when we were together was show off his goody grin and make me laugh. And now I told him I can't sleep and he replies with a silly message like chicken jumping? Aigoo, so kyeopta...

Yah! Aren't those supposed to be sheeps??

I smiled as I pressed send and not long after, my phone vibrated.

From: Onew the Chicken King

Not for me! Stop thinking about other animals and only think about chicken!!

I hardly suppressed my giggle when Kathleen's head suddenly appeared from above, startling me. "Yah!" I said, dramatically holding my chest to emphasize how much she startled me. "You almost gave me a heart attack!"

Kathleen just grinned at me like she doesn't care if she surprised me to death. She eyed me and my phone on hand and her grin grew bigger. If I hadn't known her, I would've been screaming by now since she looked so damn creepy.

"Stop! You're creeping me out!" I exclaimed, making Kathleen laugh. "Aish, aren't you supposed to be asleep?"

"Aren't you supposed to be asleep?" She pursed her lips when I didn't answer. She quickly climbed down her bed and sat on mine. "Who are you texting?" She asked as she bobbed her head towards my phone.

"No one," I said. I simply hid my phone under my pillow but Kathleen swiftly snatched it away. "Yah!" I tried to snatch it back but Kathleen was already browsing through my phone.

Her eyes widened and I know she already saw my convo with Onew. "No way," she said as she looked at me with mixed emotions. "You're texting Onew? SHINee's Onew?!"

I gave her a weak smile that says is something wrong with that? Her eyes went back and forth from me to my phone, disbelief still in her eyes.

"No way. You've got to tell me everything, like RIGHT NOW!" I flinched as she demanded for stories. Aish, she gets pretty loud and scary when she's demanding stuff.

"Aish, alright alright!" Not like I have a choice, right? Kathleen would never let me sleep til she heard the full story. "What do you wanna know?"

"WHY ARE YOU TEXTING ONEW? SHOULDN'T IT BE MINHO YOU'RE TEXTING?!" My eyes widened at her question. What the hell?

Realizing she blurted out something she shouldn't have said, she turned a light shade of pink and looked away.

"Kathleen," I said carefully but there was an edge to my voice. Upon hearing it, Kathleen looked pretty tensed and nervous that she avoided having eye contact with me. "What do you know?" When she didn't answer, I said with more force, "Tell me."

"I SAW MINHO'S LETTER TO YOU!" she finally admitted

My eyebrows furrowed. "How?" I remember putting that letter in my wallet before leaving for Korea. There's no way she could find it, much or less stumble on it. Unless...

"I was looking for some krw in your wallet yesterday to buy something when the letter caught my eye and out of curiosity, I read it." Her eyes were shut tight when she explained, as if she doesn't want to see my reaction.

"Wait," I said, realization finally dawning on me. "YOU WENT THROUGH MY WALLET?"

Kathleen's eyes suddenly opened and she looked at me with disbelief. "Wha- What the hell, Lyn? I just told you I read Minho's private letter for you and you're mad because I went through your wallet?"

"Yes I'm mad because you wnet through my wallet," I said. "I only have like a few money left in there!"

"Look," Kathleen said, her face and hand gestures indicating she gave up. "I'll pay you the money back, okay? Just...focus on the bigger scale."

"What bigger scale?"

"YOU'RE TEXTING ONEW WHEN IT'S CLEAR IT WAS MINHO YOU HAD A PAST WITH!" Kathleen looked like she wanted to strangle me to death.

"Hey," I sighed, lowering my voice since I'm getting kinda tired. "Past is past, Kathleen. You could either dwell on it or learn from it," I said as I turned my back on her, facing the wall instead.

"Did you just quote Rafiki from the Lion King?"

"Yes. Yes, I did. Ouch!" I exclaimed as Kathleen threw a pillow at me. "That hurts!"

"I'm serious here, Lyn." She looked exasperated. "Why won't you give Minho a chance?"

"Because I'm afraid of being left again, okay?" There. I finally said it. "I'm afraid that if I let him in my life once more, he'll leave again and maybe this time, it'll hurt much more." I folded my legs and hugged it, placing my chin on my knees. "I tired of getting hurt, Kathleen. I don't wanna be left again."

Kathleen looked sadly at me. She gave me a sad smile as she enveloped me in a hug. "Don't worry, Lyn. Not all people will hurt you. Not all people will leave you," she said as she caressed my hair. "I'll never leave you."

I pulled back and gave her a small smile. "Thanks, Kath."

"But you still owe me the whole story," she playfully punched my shoulder.

"Okay, fine!" I grunted. I started to tell her the whole story, right from the beginning. I can remember it all too well, like it all happened yesterday. The feeling of Minho's hug... The way he wiped my tears... When he saw me almost naked and the way he blushed... I can remember it all too well...and I can't help but smile as I tell them all to Kathleen.

Though I still feel a pang of pain, this time though I felt more happiness. Maybe I should just forget this all and start over. You know, move on and just be happy it happened.

"Please don't tell anyone, Kath." I pleaded. She gave me an assuring smile, saying my secret's safe with her.

When I saw her yawning, I told her to go back to bed and take some rest. "Thanks for trusting me, Lyn," she said as she gave me one last hug before climbing up her bed.

"Oh, and Kath," I called up to her.

"Ne?"

"You still owe me that money you borrowed from my wallet." I heard her groan and I giggled before fishing for my phone. I saw I have one unread message:

From: Onew the Chicken King

You must be asleep. Wanna grab some chicken tomorrow? Text me, okay? Goodnight :)

I smiled as I thought of spending another day with Onew. They're right; maybe not all people would hurt me. I should just give them the chance.

I pressed the reply button and typed:

I'd love too :)
