The fog was thick, it was hot and I cold feel it seeping into my warm skin. I coughed slightly and made a fanning motion to clear the way as I walked. My toes curled slightly as I felt the dew and mud beneath my feet. Hurriedly as the fog lightened up I made my way to the usual spot. Where could she be?
As if on que or hearing my spot I heard her call to me softly. "Jacob" The soft musical whisper said. Her saying my two syllable name drove shivers up and down my spine rapidly. If I could I would stay here forever listening to her say it.
"Jacob" The voice said louder, snapping out of my daze I hurried my pace almost full out sprinting. I stopped when I saw the outline of a beautiful shadow. Could a shadow even be beautiful?
"Yes!" I said practically panting. My eyes snapped up to see a shadowing figure towering over me waiting on a white balcony - it's wide columns covered in green vines and white roses. Her fingers gracefully touching the white roses. Abruptly she stopped and bent over in pain. Her midnight black hair falling over her shoulders and she twitch in pain.
" Help me Jacob, help me" The voice said, her voice filled with pain as her teeth gritted.
"What can I do?" I said frantically, I tried to move but I was frozen in place. Around me swirled darkness and I felt a strong, evil presence. My hackles rose and I was prepared to shift - she then cried out.
"Find Me!"The voice cried, the shadow figure of the young girl disappeared as a hand grabbed her mouth and brought her into the shadows.
"Wait!" I cried.
"No!"
I hadn't realized I had woken up, the sheets were damp from the amount of sweat I perspired. I put one hand to my burning forehead as I went over the dream. This one was all to real and it seemed like she was really in trouble. I shrugged it off, groaning as I got up. I looked over to my clock on my nightstand. 1:43 a.m. Sluggishly I put on sweats and made my way into the narrow hallway. I dumped myself at the kitchen counter trying to get past the thought that someone actually needed me . . . Nessie didn't need me. I opened the fridge and drank milk from the carton then munch on some of Emily's cookies. My chugging was brought to an abrupt stop when I heard a manly chuckle and a girly giggle, I rolled my eyes as to what was to come.
Paul comes running down the stairs after Racheal who giggles a girly laugh. As I turn I realizes she's only in a thin sheer night robe I turn quickly trying to get the blush off my face.
"Jacob!"She said almost screeching and jumped behind a half naked Paul who had a slight blush on his smug face.
"Man why are you up?"Paul said slightly annoyed.
"Buzz of Paul, didn't mean to interrupt you banging my sister in my own house"I practically growled back.
"Jacob!" Racheal said angrily, by insulting Paul I had somewhat insulted her.
"Sorry Rach, Paul, I'm just not in the mood" I said.
"Had the dream again" Paul said sitting down while placing Racheal on his lap. I felt a sense of jealousy wash over me. I couldn't do that with Nessie anymore. But I was thankful that imprinting had somewhat softened Paul. At least I could now stand talking to him.
"Yeah - she sounded like she needed me" I said leaning back in my chair, rocking.
" Are you sure it's nothing but a dream?" Racheal asked.
" I'm positive" I said shaking my head at her. The dream had quickly escalated over the past year from the point I heard the voice in my head, to chasing after her in the meadows, having long conversations, from hearing her sweet lullaby, and her soft skin carress my face. Now she was in danger.
"Are you sure this princess even exists!" Paul said unbelievably.
" I mean she has to!" I mumbled and if she didn't she would be the death of me, because I had fallen in love with her.
"Wake up Uncle Jake! Wake up" I felt a small dent in my bed as the child jumped up and down. I chuckled slightly getting up.
" I'm up Claire I'm up" I said surrendering, she giggled triumphantly and ran out the room to who other that Quil. Quickly I pulled on sweats and some beat up nikes. I grabbed an apple for the short trip to Emily's then knocked on Rachel's door so Paul would know I'm leaving - it was Pack Meeting Day. Outside I caught up with Quil who had Claire on his shoulder.
" So I heard you had the dream bout that princess again" He said nonchalantly, but we all knew he wanted details.
"Yeah she's in danger" I said as I threw my core of the apple into a random garbage can.
" Do you think she can be the one?" He asked.
"The one?" I asked somewhat confused.
"You know your . . . true imprint" He said uneasily, I stopped in my tracks. That hit close to home with Nessie. I clenched a hand to my chest and hit it repeatedly. The hole in my chest causing pain.
" I'm sorry man, I shouldn't have said anything" Quil said looking worried.
" It's okay, it's been two years since she left me. The bond is still their but it's almost done fading" I said and stood tall again, and walked at a faster pace into Emily's house.
"And if she is my true imprint, I'm determined to find her" I said as we arrived and walked up the steps.
Greetings of 'Jake', 'Quil' and 'Claire' were called as we walked into Sam and Emily's home. Emily smiled as we made our way over to the large bar area, we sat down next to our fellow pack mates. Well I can't say fellow pack mates for me because I am still alpha of The Black Pack - what Seth seems to call it. I sat at one end of the table while Sam sat at the other. Even though we were two powerful alphas we got along better than we did now than when . . . Nessie . . . was born.
"Hey sleepy head, heard about your new dream" Seth stated while had his arms around his imprint Skai, a newly turned wolf who was perfect for Seth. A very beautiful girl with features so similar to Emily it amazed us they weren't related, she perked up at once and like the chatterbox she is blasted a thousand questions at me.
"Did you finally get to see her face?"
" What kind of danger is she in?"
"Are you going to find her?"
I looked over to Seth who shrugged. "I'm just surprised she hasn't choked yet- " He didn't even finish his sentence because Skai slapped him on the back of his head, I'm sure it was meant to be playful but some part of me doubted that too. As soon as everyone finished chuckling I hadn't notice they looked at me expectingly, they all wanted details.
"It's coming to me, but I know shes out their I can feel it. She must be close . . . and maybe she is my imprint. Those dreams are so real and vivid . . . when she's in pain it hurts me to. Nothing compared to when . . . Nessie got hurt. It's worse and utterly heart breaking."I mumbled. I felt a large warm hand on my shoulder and knew it was Sam.
"When the time comes she will reveal herself" He said and I nodded.
A sharp cry pierced the room. "Better get Layla before she blows a gasket" Emily muttered as she went up to get her month old baby.
Sam nodded to her and sat back down, the meeting beginning.
"So what's on the agenda, vampires back again?" I asked.
"Not this time, it's odly quiet. Too quiet in fact. All the animals are anticipating something and it isn't the vampires" He said in deep thought.
" So what is it?" Jared said.
" Not sure but it may be a creature we haven't faced before" Sam said
" You mean theirs other creatures out there besides vampires and werewolves and shifters" Collin said gulping.
" It's only possible right, I mean we exist don't we" I said and everyone nodded in agreement.
" The point is will keep a lookout, a storm. One that isn't natural is coming and I have a funny feeling well meet our new enemy" Sam said slightly growling.
" When will this happen" I said jumping up in anticipation, my hands slamming down on the table.
"Tonight"
