Chapter 10: The Prey

-3 Days Later-

I sit on my bed, reading. It's been three days since I talked to Katie and ever since I haven't been or felt, myself. It was weird, just one conversation and now I feel, out of it. As my mind wanders from my book from thinking about all this I am quickly brought back to reality.

"Miss McBurry?" I hear, the person knocks on my door again.

I immediately jump up and go to the door, opening it quickly.

"I'm sorry, yes?" I said quickly.

"Miss McBurry, I'm Rebeca... You probably have seen me before, I met with your friend James" She smiled.

"Yes, the woman who brought us to this blessed place" I smile "Thank you, we owe this to you" I said.

"Why you owe my nothing... But I am here for a reason Miss McBurry..." She started

"Please call me Alex" I nod.

"Well then Alex" She smiled "I was wondering if you might be interested in something... Tomorrow we are doing a large food run... Anyone who will go is appreciated" She said sweetly.

"Wow... Actually that would be good... I'm kind of getting cabin fever being inside all day everyday" I smiled.

She laughed "Wonderful, we leave at 8am and must be back by 8pm... You may bring your weapons... See you soon Alex... Oh and let the others know, will you?" She asked.

"Of course" I smiled as she walked away, down the hall.

I must admit I was happy that I was going to get outside. I have felt like a caged animal ever since the first week here. I slipped thee key in my pocket and walk out the door, going to the other side of the hallway and knocking on the door.

The door opens "Hey Alex" Nolen answered.

"Hi Nolen" I smile "So Rebeca came and told me tomorrow their having a run day... 8am to 8pm... We are bringing weapons. Tell the others... I'm going for sure, I need to get outside" I smile.

"Okay sounds good" He replies.

"Thanks Nolen" I smile turning around.

"Yup" he smiles and goes to close the door.

I start unlocking my door when I hear a muffled voice "Who was at the door?" a muffled voice asks. "Alex" Another who I guess was Nolen replied. "Oh" the voice replied who I'm guessing was James.

I then walk inside and get my things together. I get the duffel bag and my sword, I get my knife and lay out my clothes for tomorrow... I want to be ready.

I stop when I hear a knock at the door. I get up and open it. James stands there with his arms crossed over his chest, waiting patiently for me to open the door.

"Hey" I smile.

"Hey" He smirks as usual.

I open the door further and walk back to the stuff I laid out. He follows me inside and plops himself in a chair.

"So a run day tomorrow?" He asked.

"Mmmhmm" I said softly.

"So... You're going then" He says like it's so obvious.

"MmmHmm" I smile to myself.

"I'm going then" He sighed.

"Good" I turn around "I'm gonna need someone to watch my back" I smile.

"Well that's one thing I'm good at" He smirks.

"Always have been" I smirk and put my sword on top of my bag.
