Chapter 19: Good To Be Back

"Alex?!" I heard a voice call.

I opened my eyes to see James running outside in the rain towards me.

"Alex what the heck are you doing?!" I yelled, trying to talk over the extremely loud rain.

"Calming myself!" I said looking up at him.

"I know you like the rain but really?! Your getting drenched!" He continued.

"I know isn't it wonderful!?" I asked with a slight smile.

"Well... If its managing to make you smile I'm good with it!" He smiled down at me.

"Join me! Your already soaked anyway!" I said moving over so he could sit.

"Oh Alex what are we going to do with you!?" He asked sitting down next to me, yelling yet again over the rain.

I shrugged.

"What the heck are you two doing!?" Nolen asked running out with a umbrella, Jacob stood next to him under it too.

"Calming ourselves" We said in unison.

"Oh gosh no! Not again with the whole 'We talk in unison' thing!" Jacob yelled, groaning.

We couldn't help but laugh a little.

"WHOOO HOOO!!! RAIN!!!" Ryan yelled running out the front door, bouncing and dancing around in the rain.

I got up "There you go Ryan!" I yelled.

It then started to pour harder in which I loved.

"Okay you too comon'!" I smiled and pulled the umbrella out of Nolen's hands.

"No! Alex stop!" Jacob yelled.

"Alex No don't!!" Nolen yelled with Jacob.

I then pride  the umbrella out of his hands and closed it. I then handed it to James who put it under the bench.

"Embrace it!!!" I yelled spinning around.

They both sighed but by then they were soaked.

The rain had helped... It had reminded us we will be okay... That we may have lost someone but we'll push through... We will all get through together...

I sighed. I had now changed into more comfortable, not wet clothes after my shower. I then walked out into the hall and headed for Katie's hospital room. On my way down the hall Ryan and Jacob caught up to me.

"Hey Princess" Jacob smirked as we walked.

"Hello Jacob" I said, still looking forward.

"This morning was so much fun!!" Ryan said bouncing down the hall.

"I agree" I smiled slightly.

"You say fun... I say annoying" Jacob said with a raised eyebrow.

"Oh potAto potato" I scoffed as we walked.

"Can we join you three?" Nolen asked jogging up from behind.

"Please do" I smiled.

James also walked over to us along with Nolen.

"Heading to see Katie and Arlington?" Nolen asked.

"Yeah, you?" Jacob asked Nolen.

"Same" Nolen replied as we walked.

"Someone a little quiet this morning?" I said James who was on my right. The others all on my left.

"I'm fine" He said softly.

"You sure?" I asked.

"Yeah" He nodded as we reached the elevator.

Once to Katie's room we were shocked to see her propped up with pillows, awake.

"Katie!" I yelled running over "Your awake!" I smiled.

"I am" She said in a soft, groggy voice.

"How are you feeling?" Nolen asked.

"I'm okay" She said reassuringly.

"She just woke up about fifteen minutes ago" Arlington said overjoyed.

"That's wonderful" I said excitedly.

"So what happened to you anyway?" Jacob chimed in.

"Yeah... Well... Not the best of stories" She sighed "Skyler and I went looking to see how the moaners got in... Or if there were anymore. After a short while we saw some people... Three of them... A family, A mom, A dad and a little girl no older then ten. We went to go get the troops to maybe help them because we do have Auxilium for safety. But they started calling us when they saw us... telling us to help. We said we would go get the troops. We could only find two men who had only been on one scout mission... When we brought them back they said there son was hurt in the woods... So we went out with them... Just me Skyler, the two scouts and the family... When we reached them we helped but a heard came along, they killed the family and bit Skyler... One of the troops men died too... So then the last troop man said he was going to take me back then go get the boy... So he brought me back and you know the rest" She explained.

The story sounded very believable... She told it with so much emotion, like she lived it... By the time she was done we were all convinced.

"So uh... How's Skyler?" She asked having no idea.

"She... She well uh" I couldn't find the words.

"Oh..." She said tears escaping her eyes "So the bite... It took over" She said softly.

"Yeah" I said a tear running down my cheek.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and sighed, trying to gather myself again.

"So um... You don't know what happened to the scout or the boy?" I asked.

"Right... I have no clue..." She sighed.

"So why did the boy need help?" James asked curiously.

"He broke his leg..." She said softly.

"Oh..." Jacob sighed, chiming in.

"So what happened to your arm?" Nolen asked.

"Oh when we were fighting off moaners we all ran to try and distract them from the boy... One of the scouts stayed with him and the rest of us ran for it... I fell off a small ledge and broke my arm..." She explained like she could still feel her arm breaking over and over.

"Wow... Sorry about that" Nolen sighed.

"So does Rebeca know about all this?" James asked.

"Yeah, she left right before you got here" Arlington explained to us. 

"So your gonna be okay then?" Ryan asked Katie.

"I guess so" She smiled.

"That's wonderful Katie" Jacob smiled.

"It really is" James commented. 

"It's good to have you back" I smiled at Katie.

"Good to be back" She nodded with a sigh. 

We all couldn't help but smile at Katie. We may have lost Skyler but we didn't lose Katie... No she is alive and strong and we have her here, safe with us. I miss Skyler, we all miss Skyler... It's hard on all of us... But now we know the truth... Now we know what really happened... But one thing is for sure... No life is lost without leaving a hole. No matter who it is... If their gone, no one will ever forget.
