Chapter 4

The kunai cut through the air at lightning speed, landing right on its target, a red circle. Mizuki watched as his Sensei threw each kunai with exact accuracy as did Moriko, but she had a hard time keeping up with the speed of the ninja tool as it ripped through the air. She nearly broke her neck, trying to turn it so fast to keep up with the metal object before it planted itself in the tree. “So, you both want to come back with me to Konoha?” asked the old grey haired man as he spit out his toothpick, to replace it with a cigarette. Snapping his fingers, fire emerged from his fingertips and lit the cancer stick. “Well boy?” His dark charcoal eyes stared blankly into Mizuki’s green ones.

“Yes, Tanaka-Sensei we both want to become ninja,” Mizuki said, while taking a hold of the little girl’s hand. Moriko nodded her head, eyes filled with determination. She did not care how long it would take, to become stronger; she vowed to bring back her sister where rightfully belonged. The old man smirked and chuckled to himself a little at the strong will Moriko possessed and the fire that burnt brightly in her eyes. She reminded him of Mizuki when he first came to him asking to become stronger, to help protect those who he loved. “Sensei?”

“Very well, I shall train you in the way of the ninja; however,” he paused to looked at Moriko, “It will be hard and sometimes you may want to quit, but there’s no turning back. So, Yukimura Moriko, will you continue on this path you have chosen?” Tanaka asked.

“Yes, Tanaka-Sensei!” she replied loudly, bowing. The old man smiled and patted the girl on the back. He knew that she would grow up to become a great kunochi and help others around her he could feel it.

“Then we should get going, we have a long journey ahead of us,” he announced as he picked up his backpack, walking towards the village’s gate. Mizuki soon followed after, Moriko’s hand in his. And just before they set one foot out the gate, she looked back taking in her home for the last time.

Itachi sighed and turned to face the opposite wall where Miyako’s room resided. He had not gotten a wink of sleep mostly because of the girl’s crying, but also partly because every time he would close his eyes and start to drift off into sleep state,  images of his dead Mother and Father laying on the floor surrounded by blood popped into his head causing him to awaken.

Itachi did not like seeing them, like that, yet he knew he had too because of his little brother, Sasuke. He had to remember what he did, so he would never forget and make sure Sasuke never finds out the truth of why Itachi did what he did. He wanted Sasuke to have a good memory of the Uchiha Clan imprinted into his brain, not the Uchiha Clan that planned to overtake Konoha for selfish reasons. He wanted Sasuke to have pride in his Clan, not to be ashamed of it. He even went as far as to beg the Third Hokage and the Elders to keep the secret of the Uchiha among them and not have a soul other than those three people to know the real reason behind the massacre. If others knew, Sasuke would live a terrible life. Itachi did not want that, he would rather have Sasuke hate him than for Sasuke to hate himself.

He shook his head trying to rid himself of those thoughts and sat up staring at the wall. Miyako was still crying to herself, but it was quieter than before though it still was annoying to hear. Itachi wanted to walk over to her room and get her to shut up; however, when he first tried he saw how much pain she was in as she tossed and turned about in her bed, almost falling off once if Itachi wouldn’t have caught her, placing her back where she was. Miyako kept calling out the name Moriko; her sister he thought. He felt so sorry for the poor girl because he knew what it was like to leave a sibling alone specially if their parents were no longer alive—he read it in her file. But, he left her alone to herself, crying. Itachi started to get back up again to go to her room, wanted to comfort her like he did when Sasuke was upset, but withheld the urge, falling back into his bed staring at the ceiling. He did not know what was happening to him, she was just a girl that he met a few hours ago. Maybe it was the pain they both shared that made him felt connected to her; however, their pain was slightly different. Itachi chose to leave his beloved brother behind, Miyako did not have a choice she was taken. Itachi just felt sorry for her.
