Tommy stared at the picture of Katie he had kept in his rare view mirror. He was far from civilization, so he cracked open a beer and drank well he drove. He was depressed he had to leave his young pregnet wife, but they needed the money, and the only thing that kept him from being so sad was alchole. It was a bad addiction, he grew up with it, his mom, his dad, his brother, his friends. Katie seemed to be the only reason he stopped when he was around her, but when he left, it drove him right back to drinking. The road was long and the weather was cold. The heating and cooling system in the truck had been broken for a while now but there was no money to fix it, so tommy dressed in layers. "I love you Katie." He whispered to the photo on his rear view mirror. "God damn it! I said I love you!" Tommy was starting to get drunk and swerving on the dangerous roads and a sign approached him on the road: 60 miles tell the next town, windy roads ahead. Tommy pulled over and started crying. "I'm so sorry Katie, I know I promised not to drink, I'm sorry." Tommy whimpered. On the windy road he had to stop several times to throw up do to motion sickness mixed with the poison from all the achole he had consumed. But he made it the 60 miles almost going off the side twice. He saw the nearest pay phone and got out to call Katie. He had Enough cents to pay for a three minute call. "Hello?" Katie's voice filled tommy's ears. "Katie! It's so good to hear your voice I miss you so much." He told her. "I miss you to." Katie's voice was shaky like she was trying not to cry. She could tell tommy had been drinking, his voice was a bit slurry. "Tommy you promised me." Katie bit her lip to hold back the tears. "I know, it's just my release to revive the pain of being away from you." Katie was silent. "Look I know your worried, but I promise I'm coming home to you. I knew you could have found a better guy, and ill love you tell the day I die, but I swear to god it's true, I'm coming home to you ok?" He asked. Katie just cried. "Katie baby, please." Tommy tried to sooth her. "I just..." Katie started but the operator interrupted. "You three minutes are up, to continue the call press one and enter your change." Tommy felt his pockets... Empty. "Damn it!" He shouted kicking the call box. And that was it after that he went to his hotel room and drank himself to sleep, it was his only way of copping.
