"What is going on?" Phoebe yelled.
Connie was furious at Drake while staring at a broken vase right next to him.
"Well ask your brother. We were just sitting here talking when he knocked over my favorite vase." She yelled. I looked over at Drake who was looking very annoyed.
"Look I said I was sorry, it was an accident. I said I would buy you another one its not a problem." He said.
"Another one, really! That vase is not replaceable, I bought it at a biding arena where it was the last one! And now its in pieces on the ground where you stand and I will never be able to get another one.""Oh my goodness mother cant you give it a rest. I knew coming here was gonna be a mistake because you are never going to change. Why do you think I stayed away all these years, huh? It was from you! A mother who always wanted to control my every move that I made. A mother who only cared about herself and the appearance of her family. You never gave a damn about me or Phoebe we were just a prize to you. I came here to see my sister get married not hear you complain every second. But after what just happened you made it very clear for me. I am only staying for my sisters wedding then after that we are leaving. Don't hope that we will come back because we are not, I am done."
I grabbed a piece of paper out of my pocket and wrote down what I wanted Phoebe to do for me and handed it to her. She looked at me weird wondering what it was. I told her to stay quiet and read it when I leave. She nodded her head understanding and put the paper behind her back. His mom just stared at him in shock and I think I saw a little sadness but I might just have imagined it. Drake grabbed my hand and pulled me straight to him.
"Drake, honey I think you need to calm down first before making a rational decision like this, she is still your mother. Mrs. Anderson he is very sorry, it is indeed just a vase. Your son should be more important than a piece of object that can be--"
"Just a VASE! That very piece of object was the Qing Dynasty Vase the last of its kind with that design. I Payed over 18 million for it to be mine. Let me tell you something young lady, what happens between my son and me is between us not you! So how about you keep your mouth shut from now on ok."
Drake pulled me behind him furious "Don't you dare talk to her like that. She is with me so what ever happens between me and you or just me in someone in general it will concern her every time!" We left with him dragging me upstairs not caring what his mother had to say anymore. He slammed the door when we entered the room and he started pacing back and forth. I just sat there wondering what should I do. "Drake you need to calm down, there's no need to be fusing about this. You know it was an accident and that's all that matters. If your mother don't believe in that then its her loss. But you know what went down in the living room. If it was an accident, then it was an accident. Forget what your mother had said just focus on what you know is right." I said.
He calmed down a little bit knowing I was right.
Running his hand through his head he said "Its just I knew that if we came here she was going to keep it up with her ways. I just wanted to have a happy time with my sisters wedding in two weeks. Instead its going to be torture from my mother." He sat down on the bed putting his head in his hands. I looked at him and felt bad for him. Now I know why he never liked coming here. I put my hand on his back trying to comfort him as best as I could and let him know I am here. It is kind of weird saying that because I haven't know him that long. Maybe another saying would be better. Just have to figure out what it is. "Tell me about your dad. I didn't see him down there so I though he was out somewhere." I asked.
He actually smiled when I asked that.
"My dad is amazing, he's the loving type and fun one. He doesn't yell at us over the little things and if we break something of his by accident he would understand. Even if it was the last one ever. Every time I would need advise I would always go him. My mother would only make matters worse. My dad on the other hand he would sit down and talk to me like we were equals. He treated us like adults not little kids who knew we weren't trouble makers. He loved us for us and never tried to change us and we love him for that. He wasn't down stairs because he was out back in the garage fixing the boat I suppose. He's always out there trying to get it running again. My mom always want him to get a new one but he always told her no because it was his fathers and my grandfather had passed it down to him."
"What kind of boat?" I asked.
"1995 bajo hot shot, why?"
"Because I know a little things about boats, especially that kind. My grandpa had one he taught me everything about them. From listening to what's wrong to knowing how to put a new part in. He also showed me skills about old cars." I said.He looked at me stunned like he didn't know who I was. "You know miss Steels you surprise me every minute you talk." He said laughing. I smiled because its true there is a lot of things no one knows about me. And sometimes they think I am lying. Which I am not.
"Come on let's go meet my father and maybe you can look at that boat of his."**********************************
We walked into a shack to see a boat sitting there with who I believe is Drake's father looking at it.
"Hey dad I would like you to meet Brianna my girlfriend. Brianna this is my father." he said.
"It's nice to meet you Sir." I said.
"Oh no need for that Sir stuff just call me Dave." he said shaking my hand.
"Ok Dave." I said laughing. I looked at the boat and it was neat, it had a red strike down the middle with a flare. It didn't really look like it was damaged on the outside that's fine there. But the motor looked old.
"So Drake has told me that you been having trouble getting the boat to start up. Can I help?" I asked.
"Sure but I don't know if you can." I got on the stool and looked inside the motor. "How long have you had this motor?" I asked going through the parts inside making sure everything was fine.
"About seven year."
Yikes! That could be one thing but the parts inside are still good for another two to three years. Then two things caught my eyes. There was a loose wire and a little crack on the ignition. That can cause shortage and a blowup.
"Well you can get it replaced but I don't see why u should some of the parts are still good lookin in here. But there is a slight crack on the ignition and you have a loose wire. You are lucky the crack wasn't bigger if not it could have gotten touched with that loose wire and cause an explosion."
I tighter the loose wire really tight where it won't become loose again. "The ignition can be replaceable you just need to order the right part for it. And I can help you take it out if you like." I asked.
He looked at me in amaze. "Wow young lady you have a sharp eye, I would have never noticed that loose wire or the ignition. If you don't mind me asking where did you learn this stuff?" He asked.
"My grandfather, he knew how to fix from a broken sink to a new engine. He was a fixer tool that knew everything.""Well we old folks know our way around the toolbox." He laughed grabbed the motor and looked inside. "You sure are right." I said laughing along with him. "You are a lifesaver Brianna, maybe you can help me attached the parts together." He said. You can see a big difference between Drakes mother and father. I wonder why though I need to ask Drake about that later.
"My father likes you." Drake said as we got ready for bed. I pulled the covers up over my legs and looked at him. "How can u tell? All I did was talk to him about the boat and what I found was wrong with it. It wasn't really a big conversation." I put my hair up in a bun and Shirl my ring around my figure. The ring my father gave me when I was sixteen. He said it was my mothers and it meant a lot to her. I never take it off, like never.
"Because by the way he smiled at you. He has never seen or heard of one of my girlfriends that knew about boats and cars. I mean not like your my girlfriend or anything your just pretend and he doesn't know that but... you know what I'm just gonna go to bed." He got under the covers and turned off the light while I lay down as well laughing at how he was trying to explain himself. "Night." I say covering myself fully and turned off the lamp. Just realizing I have never slept in the same bed with a guy. Only my best friends but never a guy. I just hope we don't end up snuggling close together. I need to keep this strictly business nothing more.
