I woke up coughing, my lungs hurting like hell. I wouldn't think that being dead would hurt so much. I tried to take a breath, but an intense burning in my lungs made me cough again. I don't think I'm dead yet. I tried to move... huge mistake! Everything, every single part of my body hurts as bad as my lungs. Something is very wrong with my leg, the movement I made left me with a sharp pain that pulled me back to reality. I was in a bed, the light stung my eyes, which barely opened, because of what felt like a hard crust sealing them shut. The spots cleared from my vision. The room was white and clean, and I was covered in a black comforter. "Black and white, either I am now color blind or this person has zero imagination. Where am I? Where is Levi?" I thought.
"Leeva..." I croaked before I started coughing again.
"It sounds like she's awake. Your lucky she survived after you pulled a stunt like that." Stated a voice I didn't recognize.
" I thought they were behind us, not you, my only choice was to dive." Said Levi. "I thought she had heard my warning. If you hadn't been there I don't know what would have happened. I would never forgive myself if..." Levi cut off.
" It's alright, what happened, happened. All that matters is that she survived. But I don't know how long I can throw them off your trail and with her leg like that she won't be able to travel anytime soon. Think the only option is to send you off with a decoy and have you come back once she has recovered." The voice explained.
"I can't just leave her here." Levi said his voice rising. "She is my responsibility!" Levi stated angrily.
"Let's get her opinion on the matter. If she feels and looks well enough to travel then I won't stop you. If not..."
"Yes, I understand." Cut in Levi. The white door opened to show Levi in his torn red t-shirt he has been wearing the past few days. "Good, not color blind" I thought. Passed the worried look of my brother was a tall, clean shaven man with shaggy blond hair. He had the same kind of strong muscular build as most werewolves and was wearing a casual type suit. He looked to be in his early forty's. He looked at me with concern and wisdom. He knew I wasn't in any shape to travel, but that wouldn't stop my brother from trying to convince him otherwise.
"Hello Hope, my name is Mason Luna, I'm a good friend of your father's. How are you feeling? Would you like some water?" Mason asked. I just nodded which made my head hurt.
He gave some water and a little bit to eat which made me feel better. While I ate he relayed the plan to me. Truthfully I didn't know how I felt, all I knew was the idea of traveling anywhere, especially traveling the way we had been, sounded impossible to me. Mason explained to me that my leg was fractured and that it wouldn't be good for me to walk on it for a week. Levi had only planned for us just to stay here a few days, just long enough to resupply and get some direction about where we could go and who we can trust. Now we were in danger of being here to long and getting captured.
" I agree with masons plan." I announced. " I mean if it is crucial that I don't get captured, I think will have to risk it." I reasoned.
" I already put your life at risk once, I can't do it again" said Levi with a bit of guilt and determination in his voice.
"Then think about it, Mason says the next safe house is about 100 miles away, I could never travel that far the way I am now. You would be putting me at a worse risk taking me than leaving me here." I stated.
"But..."
"Levi, I will be fine." I intruded.
"Please don't let your guilt cloud your judgment. We will just have to trust Mason to keep me safe for now."
"Okay, but please if anything happens and I mean anything..."
"I will find a way to contact you." I said.
"Well I guess it's settled then. I'll go get in contact with the decoy. You will need to leave tomorrow." Said Mason.
Then he promised my safety before he walked out of the room.
"I better get my things together." Levi said as he turned to leave.
"Wait!" I stopped him. "There is something I need you to promise me." "What is it Hopper?" He asked, calling me by my nick name which threw me off guard.
"Now that you don't have me to slow you down, promise me that you will go back and save Suri." I pleaded. "I know you can." I then saw a deeply pained look come over his face. He looked down as if trying to find the right words to say. My heart sank to the pit of my stomach.
"No... I can't." He whispered. With his head still down, he left the room as the first tear fell from my eye.
