Another day in the maze. My hideaway moves with the walls which makes it difficult to find sometimes. The vines give me a leverage to seek it out but thankfully it stays in the same section.I only ever need to hide my home once a week. When the boys in the place they call 'glade' is allowed passage.
It amazes me how they adjusted so quickly. I was afraid and had no way of knowing anything around me.
Alby was the first to come up after me. Because of me he had to face what i went through alone.
As I explored the maze and found out its secrets, I left notes for him. Warning him of the dangers and helping him whenever he felt lost or confused.
When he got the courage to see the maze, I watched him. I only showed myself for one second to warn him of the monsters that roamed this place.
He didn't come back. He was left astounded seeing me. But in time as others came up the box he eventually forgot. I would probably be familiar to him if I did show again but I don't think it would be the greatest idea.
It had been two years since my first day and they had made a pretty good home for themselves. They figured things out like gardening and that they were put there without any memory for a few days.
They're names where odd too.
But a few were too curious for their own good.
A boy, minho, he had been trying to track me for a month now. He must've found something of mine and was too stubborn for his own good to let go. His partner and good friend newt followed but, was astounded by what minho was trying to find, other than a way out.
What I also noticed was that newt, had become distant and quiet. His actions were sluggish and it was as if it was effort to even get out of bed.
He was giving up. And it worried me greatly. He was different than the others. I wasn't sure how; other than his British accent.
Anyway it was a normal day. The doors from the glade were opening and it was time for me to stock up on supplies and keep out of sight once more.
As i watched the sun come up I heard a scuffling and looked down from the wall. The boy newt had snuck out before the others. He was...crying.
I watched him as he ran further and soon stopped looking up at the wall. He began to climb. Was he insane? This is bad. I jumped across the walls to where he was and looked over to see him still climbing.
He was gonna jump. I had to do something. I popped my head out in full view. "Are you crazy?!" I shouted.
He looked up and stumbled, surprised. Unfortunately, he fell back and lost his grip.
I closed my eyes not wanting to see. There was a loud snap and a bang. I opened my eyes thinking it was too soon but what I saw was worse. He was dangling on the wall. Vines had caught his ankle. It was twisted horribly. I slid down the vines thanking my gloves for protecting my hands.
"Hey, are you ok?" I asked holding his face. He groaned but remained unconcious. I climbed up slightly grabbing his waist and cutting the vines that caught him. Bringing him down.
He was bleeding out. I couldn't leave him here. Was it my fault he was like this I thought. Yes, but if I hadn't he would be dead by now. I pulled him up one arm across my shoulder. My hand went round his waist.
Thankfully, pulling my body up the vines so much gave me some muscle. I thought about the route the runners take and decided it was best to try.
It was a slow process but we were finally on track. I heard steps and moved towards it. The jig is up. I'm going to be seen. This time I couldn't hide but perhaps...
I put newt down against the wall. I shouted the person over shouting help and went round the corner.
I heard a gasp and more running.
"What happened shank?"
It was minho. I looked round slowly and saw him pulling him away.He would be ok. I sighed and nodded. I left it a little while before sneaking into the glade from the west wall. Through the forest. I picked up food and other necessary things and left.
But I was still wondering if newt was ok. Did he make it? What was going through his head?
I sighed and put my half eaten apple in my left hand and pulled myself up the wall again. On the closest wall to them I sat at the top. Eating my apple.
It seemed they were on edge. The walls had closed and the darkness had took over but the glade was quiet. Murmuring things quietly. I saw no sign of Alby, minho or newt for the next 4 days.
Daylight had come and still worried I snook in through the section into the glade keeping my head down.
My observations had shown me that he would most likely be in the med jack hut. The back of it was the forest, thank goodness. I looked around keeping my head low.
Windows showed other patients but no sign of newt until the last window.
He was in his own section laying there with a bandaged ankle and a sheet to give him some space. He again looked lost and hopeless. His eyes had sunken in and he looked like all faith and hope was gone.
It seemed all the equipment was taken from the room. Just him on the bed.
I skillfully and quietly jumped through the window and made a note to stay quiet and keep listening out for anyone who would come in.
He looked up only to stare at me.
"Who are you?" He whispered.
