Sally’s P.O.V.

As soon as Harry leaves the room, I start to unpack. As I’m unpacking I can’t help but think that maybe this is my second chance. Maybe we’ll finally get to be a real family. What if Harry and I fall in love, and get married? What if I screw everything up like I usually do, and end up alone with everyone hating me? No, I’ve changed that’s not going to happen.

Right then I decide to make a promise to myself, no matter what happens I’ll be the real me, and if people don’t like it then I can forget them. I’m going to make this work, because this is my last chance. I know after everything they forgave me, but that’s not going to happen again. I’m going to make sure that I live every day to the fullest.

As soon as I finish unpacking, there’s a knock at my door. I walk over and open it to see Darcy standing there.

“Hey, what’s up kidderoo?” I say.

“Kidderoo?” She asks clearly confused why I called her that.

“It’s just something I say.”

“Oh, ok, well anyway, I came to see if you needed any help unpacking, but I can see that you’ve already finished, so I guess that’s a no.”

“Yep, I just finished actually, but thanks for the thought.”

“You’re welcome, so where did you and dad disappear to? I went down stairs to help you with your bags, but when I got down there you guys were gone.”

“He was just giving me a tour of the house.”

“But I already gave you one?”

“I told him that, but he insisted. He said you probably forgot to show me something.”

“I did not.”

“I know, but I think it was just so he could keep his eye on me, make sure I didn’t try to steal anything or something.”

“No, I think it’s because he just wanted to spend time with you. Why do you act like he doesn’t trust you?”

“Cuz I don’t think he does, I mean he does have all the reasons not to.”

“Yeah he does, but he trusts you. Believe me, I know he does. I actually think he trust you more than he does me.”

“Yeah, right”

“I’m serous though. He does, and you know what?”

“What?”

“Why would he let you stay in our house, if he didn’t trust you?” When she says this I start to think, maybe she is right, and maybe he does trust me. I stay quiet just thinking about what she said, until she calls me out on it. “That’s what I thought.”

“Oh, shut up.”

“Now come on, I’m sure dad’s done cooking by now.”

“He cooks? I thought he would have hired someone to do that for him.”

“No, he likes to cook. He says it tastes better then.”

“Well, that makes since.” I say and we walk down to the kitchen. As soon as we walk into the kitchen, I smell the most delicious smell I’ve ever smelt. “Mmmm, that smells good, what is it?” I ask.

“It’s Lancashire hotpot. It’s Darcy’s favorite.” Harry tells me.

“Lancashire hotpot? What’s that?”

“It’s a dish made traditionally from lamb or mutton and onion, topped with sliced potatoes, left to bake in the oven all day in a heavy pot.” He tells me.

“Oh, ok.” I say and help set the table. As soon as everything’s done, we fill our plate bowls. I start to take my first bite, when I notice Harry and Darcy staring at me. “What?” I say.

“Nothing, we just wanted to see your reaction when you take your first bite of Lancashire hotpot.” Darcy says like it the most obvious thing.

“Oh” I say and go to take my first bite. “Oh my god, that is good! It’s the best thing I have ever tasted!” I say a little too excited, which makes Harry and Darcy crack up laughing. “Oh, shut up!” I say and then start to laugh. After we calm down we start talking about random stuff and it feels like we’re a real family.

After we finish eating, I help Harry with the dishes. Darcy has already gone to her room, like any normal teenager, avoiding doing chores.

“I never got to ask, but do you ever just hang out with the guys?” I ask Harry.

“Yeah, sometimes when they’re not doing anything.” He answers.

“How are they anyway?”

“They’re good. Louis married Eleanor, and had four kids; Zayn married Perry, and had two kids; Liam married Danielle, and had three kids; and you know Niall married your cousin, and had two kids.”

“And what about you?”

“I was too busy raising Darcy to go out with anyone.”

“I’m so, so sorry. I basically ruined your life.”

“No, not at all, if anything you made it better.”

“How so?”

“When I first held Darcy in my arms, I made a promise to myself that she would be my first priority, and that I would find her a mother who would love and cherish her just as much as I do. I stopped my ways of just finding a girl who I liked, but didn’t really see myself with. I had to think of Darcy. See if it wasn’t for you or Darcy, I could have ended up married to the wrong girl and ended up divorced and alone.”

“Yeah, but you could have ended up with the right girl and lived, as a fairy tale would say, happily ever after.”

“Yes, but what if I thought she was the right girl, and then after we were married, I come to find out she hates kids or something.”

“Then she wouldn’t have been the right girl and you would have kept looking for her.”

“Yeah, but I still would have ended up divorced.”

“True, but you would have found her any way. You would be with her, with kids that you raised together. Instead, I took that from you, and you had to raise Darcy by yourself. I still don’t see how you forgave me for everything. I was horrible, I only thought of myself, and not how it could affect your life. I mean you gave up everything for my mistakes. I can’t even begin to tell you how sorry I am.”

“Yes, you WERE horrible, but you’ve changed you’re not the same person you were. Stop saying sorry, you can’t change the past, but you can live your future the way you want. This is your second chance, what’s in the past is in the past. Quit going back there, because to me it doesn’t exist.”

“Thank you, Harry. You are a really good man.”

“You’re welcome, and thanks for helping me clean up.” He kisses my cheek, and walks away. I put the last dish up and think you know what he’s right. If he can forget the past and move on, so can I. This is my second chance and this time I’m doing it right.
