Waking Up

For what felt like the second time, I opened my eyes but this time instead of finding Aquarious and the so called lost city of Atlantis, I saw my dad reach out to unbuckle me and carry me out of the car. I didn't resist.

Teasingly he said, "You got to wake up. I can't carry you up the stairs like I used to."

I said back to him, "You calling me heavy?" I stood up once we got into the house, happy to be talking with my dad. I heard him snort a little, laughing. Half asleep I blindly walked up the stairs to my room.

I walked down the hallway and at the third door to the right I walked into my bedroom. I half opened my eyes and saw my somewhat tidy room. I had spent 3 hours cleaning it on the weekend. Before, it was as if a tornado came through my room followed by a hurricane finished off by a tsunami and it left my dirty clothes piled on my desk and floor along with random things like bouncy balls and deflated balloons.

I wandered over to my bed and laid down on top of my soft blankets. I was just thinking about how much I love the shade of blue on my walls when I remembered the dream I had. It felt so real, I was still unsure weather it had actually happened or not.

I glanced over at my clock on my white bedside table that had my favourite monkey stuffy and a cup of water on top of a colourful coaster. I saw that it was already 5:00 pm. I decided to have a nap and then I'd go out swimming. I might be crazy but that dream was just so real, I needed to prove to myself that it wasn't true.

To pass the time, I decided to watch Netflix for about an hour. I arranged my pillows, grabbed my iPad and decided that I was going to watch Phineas and Ferb. I know it is childish that I still watch cartoons even though I'm 13, but I find them funny.

After watching 2 episodes, I got up and took the usual stuff I take to the cave. Once I collected my things, I quietly crept down the carpeted stairs to the main level of my house. I knew that my dad would have gone to work by now and that my mom would be working in her office.

To let her know where I was I wrote a note on a piece of paper and put it on our granite countertop in the kitchen. She'd see it when she comes upstairs since the stairs lead right to our kitchen.

I quickly grabbed an apple, rinsed it, cut it up and put some slices in a ziplock bag.

When I was done that, I grabbed my waterproof bag and snuck out the front door. I felt as if the ocean was calling me to come to it. I couldn't resist the urge to sprint to the ocean, so I didn't. Within a minute or so I was kicking my shoes off, putting them in my bag and then diving into the ocean.

Since it was the middle of June, the water was probably around 15 degrees Celsius. It wasn't very hot but it wasn't too cold either.

I swam to my usual cave with great ease. Looking down (feeling utterly amazed) I saw what now seemed to be my usual blue tail. I really was a mermaid! I was so excited as I broke the surface of the water in the cave.

I emerged out of the water, dragging myself up onto the sandy floor around me.

"Hello Sally." I felt like I recognized that feminine voice.

I looked up and was excited to see Aquarious hovering in the water. "You are real!" I said childishly.

"Indeed I am. Now would you like to come to Atlantis with me?" She said warmly. "It really isn't that far. For a mermaid that is." Mysteriously she went under the surface of the water. I followed her.
