"Wake up, Alice," my grandma whispers to me.
"...huh?" I mumble. I turn over on my side and barely look at the clock to see it's 1:00 in the afternoon.
"Woah, how did I sleep in so long?" I say getting up and out of my bed.
"Jet lag is getting to you sweetie, it's common. Now go back to sleep, you should rest." My grandma says in a warm voice.
"No! No no no I am Alice Sparks: on time for everything and always moving!"
"But Alice, nothing is going on today! The wedding rehearsal isn't until Thursday."
"That's tomorrow!" I almost scream. "There's so much to do and see in Hawaii, grandma. I just want to get it all in! Plus, I got a new underwater camera that I'm dying to test while swimming with dolphins. Wait, do I need any kind of reservation for that? And then-"
"Alice!" Grandma says sternly but in a comforting grandma-ish way. "Listen, why don't we spend the day together? I live here! I know where to go, what to eat...and how to avoid dumb tourists."
I giggle at that last part.
I love grandma, and I haven't seen her forever! This could be fun.

I wasn't sure what grandma had planned, so I picked out one of my favorite outfits:
A white tube top paired with my hi-lo see through floral maxi skirt. I crimp my hair and put my leather band on. I accessorize with bangles and an 'infinity' anklet. Finally, I put on my aviators and grab my clutch.
I saunter down the stairs and see Grandma waiting for me.
"You look like an American Eagle model."
I giggle some more.
Did that just come out of my 67 year old grandma?!
"What? I get around you know." She says with a wink.
First we get something to eat.
We stop at a really cute restaurant called "Hula's." We were seated outside, right by the beach.
I marvel at the menu: calamari, chicken fruit kabobs, mushroom burgers with pineapple, and smoothies for fruits I've never heard of before!
I ended up getting steak marinated in pineapple juice. It was so sweet! For a drink, I got a mango daiquiri. I'm old enough to drink, but I'm not a huge fan. So when I ordered the daiquiri with no alcohol, I got a funny look from the waitress. I don't care though; I'd rather be alcohol-free than an addict.
While we were waiting, Grandma started talking like a teenager again.
"Oooh! That surfer dude is cute, Al! Don't you think?" I was interested to see where this was going, so I looked over.
"Which one?" I asked. There was a whole sea of surfers out there!
"Blondie, six pack, spray tan, can't miss him!" I notice him immediately.
Wow.
Wow.
Wow.
"Sweetie, why don't you go talk to him?"
"Yeah? And say what? ' I saw your beautiful hair, perfect smile and your amazing surfing skills and decided to say hi?' Yeah, not happening."
I take a sip of my daiquiri.
Grandma gave me a stare that said 'Al, I know your not looking for a boyfriend right now, but it's worth a shot right?"
I stare at him once more. But this time, he's staring back. He laughs and waves.
"Do I wave back?" I ask Grandma.
"Well that's kinda how communication works Alice."
I roll my eyes but in a joking way.
Before I can wave back I see him walking towards me.
Should I be nervous?
Because I am.
