CHAPTER SEVEN
Parting
November 7, 2009. Saturday. They went back to the beach house in the evening. Pia had taken a shower at her bathroom and prepared for dinner.
Jed talked to Tatay Solomon.
“Is everything about her new apartment ready now, Tatay?”
“Yes, hijo. We already arranged the other stuffs you bought for her there. The apartment is already paid for six months,” the caretaker said.
“Have you deposited the amount I said on her bank account,” Jed asked.
“Yes. I also bought the mobile phone you want for her,” the caretaker responded.
“It will be her twentieth birthday tomorrow,” he said. “She may not like these arrangements I have done for her. But these are the least I can do to protect her,” he told the caretaker.
“But why did the two of you decided not to communicate after this? I don’t get it, hijo. You love her and it seems to me that she deeply cares for you too,” the caretaker questioned their decision.
“If fate will lead us back to each other again then we are meant to be. But I will just give her six months with this fate thing. If we don’t happen to encounter each other again by chance then after that, I’ll seek her. I want you to also keep an eye on her secretly, Tatay. Keep her safe from any harm,” he replied.
“I understand, hijo,” the caretaker acknowledged.
“She still needs to finish her degree and get through her parents’ death. I will need some healing too. I had just been in a failed relationship and Papa just died recently. We both need time to sort out our feelings away from each other,” he added.
He took a shower too, dressed up and fetched her in her room.
He was about to enter her bedroom when his mobile phone rang “Yes, Ma. I just called you an hour ago. Anything you want?”
“I just saw Gemma. She’s pregnant. She’s already married,” his mother told him.
He told his mother, “Ma, I have nothing to do with her anymore. She deserves to be happy.”
His mother insisted, “And you also do, son.”
“I know, Ma,” he acknowledged it.
His mother added, “You’re not getting any younger, son. You’ll be thirty by March.”
He told his mother, “Ma, let’s just talk about this when you get back home. As for now, enjoy your stay there in Mexico.
His mother responded, “I won’t be here for long. By February, I’ll be there for the preliminaries of Binibining Filipinas. By then, I want to know some progress with your love life.”
He agreed, “Okay.”
His mother uttered, “Bye.”
“Bye, Ma.”
She was already wearing a white and black sundress when he came in. She was just wearing white flip flops on her feet.
He hugged her from behind and kissed her neck. “Tomorrow will be your birthday and our last day together.’
“Yeah. It seemed that my things had already been packed,” she said, “What time will you leave tomorrow?”
“We will all leave by lunch time. You and Tatay will leave by speedboat. Manolo and I will travel back to Vienburg by the yacht. Tatay will drive you to Angelo and deliver you to your new apartment. Most of your stuffs were already there. I already paid it for six months. I also deposited enough money on your ATM account,” he informed her.
