***Ray's POV***
Weeks went by quickly, and before any of us knew it, we had been working with our interns for two months.
They had each won at multiple challenges. Logan was good at editing, and really efficient, but Marcus was usually better at the actual games.
In celebration of their two month anniversary, we decided to have an intern versus match. Geoff chose for them to play an old fighting game that none of us had ever even heard of before. Marcus won, but not by much. And afterwards we all challenged each other to friendly matches, and wasted a day doing that.
It was fucking intense though.
The next day, I walked into the office later than normal, so I found that Geoff and Ryan were all already there.
I worked for about a half an hour before Gavin walked in with a package.
"Ah, man, that's for me, right?" I joked as I took off my headphones. Gavin looked at the label for a moment, looking completely confused.
"I think it's for some lady named 'Debby'?" He said slowly.
"Give it here." Geoff demanded as he took the package from Gavin's hands. He looked down at the label then up at Gavin.
"It's FROM Debby, you dipshit. It's addressed to Logan." He said.
Gavin took the package back from Geoff and he began to rip it open.
"Woah, woah, what the hell are you doing?" I said, standing up.
"I wanna see what's inside." Gavin replied as he opened the box. I knew we were kinda invading her privacy or whatever, but we all leaned in, curious of the box's contents.
It was full of bubble wrap, and there was a letter placed neatly on top.
Ryan reached down and opened the letter. His eyes widened as he scanned down it.
"What's it saaaay?" Gavin whined.
Geoff took it from Ryan and began to read it aloud.
"Dear Logan,
I'm sorry, dear to inform you like this, but I couldn't find your apartment's address, only your workplace's.
I'll get right to the point. I've gotten cancer, and there's nothing they can do to save me. I'm done for.
Please don't come visit, I know you've just started your new job. I don't want to interfere with your new life, so I won't tell you where I'm staying.
I know you don't want any financial help, but I thought you'd like these, so someday you can show them to your own children. Tell them about their grandmother.
Remember, your father and I love you,
Your mother."
We stood in a shocked silence.
What the fuck did we just accidentally read?
"Gavin, where'd you find this?" Ryan asked, finally breaking the silence.
"Just outside, in the door. I swear I didn't like, take it from her apartment or something." He replied, a blank look on his face.
I kneeled down and opened the bubble wrap. I saw a stack of old photo albums, their covers worn and yellowing from age. I picked one up off the top, and saw a picture of a little girl and a little boy swinging together. The girl was obviously Logan and he looked about 9, whereas she was like 2. I turned the pages, but the boy never showed up again. An old couple were pictured many times holding her and playing with her as she grew up. They wore expensive clothes, maybe they were her grandparents.
