Dakota's P.O.V.
I woke up snuggled up to something warm and lumpy. I opened my eyes and immediately reclosed them. When my eyes were finally adjusted to the brightness of the California sun, I opened my eyes and looked over to see what the warm lumpy thing was and saw that it was Aleea. Somehow in the middle of the night, we had rolled onto the floor and snuggled all night. I looked up at the couch and Marissa wasn't on the couch. I looked around the floor and she wasn't there either.
"Aleea! Marissa is gone. Do you know where she is," I said with panic in my voice.
"No, now leave me alone. She is probably using the restroom or something," Aleea stated in a grumpy voice. She rolled away from me and bumped into the end table.
"I guess I will go see if I can find her. Grumpy brat!" I got up and kicked Aleea lightly on my way out. I checked upstairs and couldn't see here. I went back down to the main floor and saw that the door that leads to the basement was open. I walked down there and turned my phones flashlight on so I could see. When I got to the bottom of the stairs, I saw that the door that leads outside was open. I walked out and turned my flashlight back off. I walked up the outside basement stairs I saw Marissa walking into the woods.
Surprised I ran up to the woods so I could see what she was doing. As quietly as I could, I snuck behind her. She stopped in front of a huge tree stump. I put my arm on her shoulder and she collapsed onto the enormous stump. I kneeled down beside her and started shaking her to wake her up. She opened her eyes and they were glowing purple! She let out a growl and her teeth were like razors.
With a yelp of surprise, I fell backwards onto the damp ground. She blinked and her eyes turned back to normal and her elongated teeth retracted allowing her other teeth to come back into place.
"Wha-What happened," she said with a shiver.
Once my heart beat slowed back down I asked, "What do you remember?"
She said, "The last thing that I remember is falling asleep after we were done watching that show. Then I woke up and you were out here with me. Can we go back? I am freezing."
"Yea, come on. Let's go back home. Aleea is probably awake by now and besides, we have to start cooking. Stiles and his friends should be here in a couple of hours."
We walked back up to the house. I was very freaked out about the whole deal with Marissa and her eyes and teeth. I just put it down to me being tired and seeing things.
When we got back to the house, Aleea was up and about to walk out the door.
"Great timing. Finally decided to wake up," I said in a facetious tone.
"Is she okay? Where was she at," Aleea asked with wide eyes and a helpless frown.
"She was out in the middle of the woods laying on a HUGE tree stump. I mean HUGE! The funny thing about it was, she had just got there. The only reason that I found her so fast is because I watched her walking into the woods through the basement door," I said to her with a sigh.
"Well at least you found her. You start cooking, I will take her to her bathroom and help her get ready for the day," Aleea said, informing me of the arrangement.
"GOD, I can do it myself," Marissa said, snatching her arm away from me and storming past Aleea, almost knocking her down in the process.
"God someone woke up on the wrong side of the tree," Aleea said, attempting a joke.
"Can I tell you something and if I do, do you promise not to tell anyone and not to laugh at me," I asked her in a serious tone.
"Ok course Dakota, you are my best friend."
I took a deep breath and started to fill a plastic bowl with ingredients for my homemade Mexican salad casserole while saying "When I turned Marissa over to wake her up, she opened her eyes and they were glowing bright purple. She then opened her mouth and she had razor sharp fangs filling her mouth. She growled at me. Before I could freak out to bad though, she went back to normal. I tried to put it off to me being tired and paranoid or something but I can't help thinking that what I saw was real. And the way she looked at me after she went back to normal. It looked like she didn't even know who I was."
"Dakota, I really don't want to agree with you on this but last night, after we fell asleep, I woke up a little and I looked over onto the couch where Marissa was at. She-She was looking at me with these glowing purple eyes. She put her finger over her mouth and said Shhhhh and I went back to sleep. Up until you said something, I thought it was just a dream but now, I'm not so sure," she said in a whispered tone.
"I am going to go to the library after Stiles and his friends leave and see if I can figure something out about what is going on. There has to be something on the internet," I said back with a shrug.
"I am going with you. I don't feel safe without you with me. You have to remember, the dumb blond is always the first to die."
"If you are sure, but I don't think Marissa will want to stay here alone. We can see if she will though. She might think something is up," I said as I pulled a glass pan from under the cabinet. I started to pour the first layer of salad into it, I put some cheese and bacon bits. I put another layer of the salad, some guacamole and sour cream and then more cheese and bacon bits. I stuck it in the already preheated oven and set it for twenty minutes as Aleea shook her head in agreement with my statement
I checked my phone and saw that Stiles had messaged me that he was on his way to go get his friends and then he would be on his way here. I messaged him back and told him that we were cooking and that we would see them then.
