Dakota's P.O.V.
When we got to the airport I was already ready to turn back. I just got a call from my abusive father who I haven't seen since he went to jail when I was in 10th grade. He beat me all the time and my mother finally found out and called the police (He was arrested for wanton endangerment and child abuse), plus I am deathly afraid of airplanes and the thought of being on one terrified me. Aleea pulled me in and we got through security and put our baggage on the conveyer belt. We walked up to our gate and gave the lady our tickets.
Her eyes widened and she asked, "First class? In Kentucky? Are you famous or something?"
Aleea laughed and said, "No, but my friend over here is terrified of airplanes and the only way that he agreed to ride one when I tried to buy the tickets was if we got first class. He is a big baby."
"Ohhh, that is understandable. I am absolutely terrified of airplanes as well. That is why I work out here instead of being a flight attendant. I have never rode an airplane and probably never will. Hey, if it turns out that the ride wasn't so scary call or text me. I might ride one if you say it wasn't so bad. Maybe when you come back we can hang out sometime," she said as she wrote her name and number down on a paper and held it out to me.
I took it with a blush and I said, "I would like that. We are actually moving to California, but when we come back to visit family and friends and such we really should hang out."
She winked at me and said, "Ohhh, so you are going to try to become famous. I really would like to hang out with you though so, yeah. Have a safe flight handsome!"
"See yah. I will text you when we land. Assuming that we land safely of course," I said as I started backing away. She waved and I waved back. We walked through the gate and boarded the plane. We found our seats and as soon as I sat down I buckled, Aleea rolled her eyes at me and Marissa just shook her head.
Marissa whispered, "Are you sure you want to do this. I mean, you are already nervous about the call with your dad and now you are on an airplane which is something that you are absolutely terrified of."
"I am fine seriously. I just need to get out of here. Hopefully this ride isn't too bad. I just need to get as far away from these memories as I can and California is pretty damn far away," I said back.
"Just to let you know, there is supposed to be lots of turbulence today. It is very windy, luckily I brought some motion sickness pills which also make you sleep. As soon as we get our drinks, you can take," said Aleea with a giggle, "By the way, that girl was very flirty."
"Thank you! I really need to sleep through this crap. I know right. She was also hot. I am really going to have to message her when we get off of this plane. Maybe we can get together sometime or something. I would like that."
Marissa was about to say something but the announcer started talking over the intercom, "Thank you for choosing Delta Airlines, this is your pilot speaking. We are getting ready to start this journey and I would just like to go over a few rules. First off for safety reasons, we need you to buckle your seatbelts. This part of the trip and the end are the bumpiest even though today's journey is going to be filled with lots of turbulence. Second, no cell phones out during the flight. That is very dangerous and can mess with our navigation tools. Third rule is, have a great flight. There should be someone coming around to first class in just a second to take your orders for food and drinks. As for the rest of the passengers, the attendants will come later to bring you some refreshments. There is a light over the door way that will turn off when you are able to take your seatbelts off. Just in case you don't see it though, we will come on to make another announcement."
The plane started with a loud rumbling noise. I looked out the window and saw that we were moving very slowly. I held one arm on the armrest and the other on Aleea. She just sighed and was trying not to laugh. We started moving a little faster and I whimpered. Once we finally picked up enough speed we were all thrown backwards against our seats as we started lifting into the air. I covered my mouth so I couldn't scream and Aleea couldn't hold back her laughter any longer. I looked at her and smacked her arm. My face started heating up because of how bad I was embarrassing myself. Once we reached a certain altitude, we evened out. The light turned off signaling that we could unbuckle our seatbelts. The flight attendant also came on and told us that we could unbuckle. Everyone started unbuckling and I looked out the window. My jaw dropped because we were higher than the clouds. It was so beautiful and so serine that I forgot all about being scared.
"Wow! Guys look out the windows. It is beautiful. We are literally higher than the clouds," I said.
I heard rustling and a bunch of oohs and aahs. I smiled and laughed. I looked over at Aleea and she was crying. I wrapped my arms around her and said, "Hey. It's okay. What are you crying about?"
"Brodie.. I still can't believe that he did that to me. I don't understand. I thought he loved me. We were supposed to get married when he moved here next year. Plus your father called and threatened you. How did he even get out of jail? It was supposed to be a life sentence. Everything just keeps going wrong," she said while sobbing into my shoulder.
I unbuckled my seat and moved over towards her. I said, "Hey listen to me. He doesn't deserve you. Definitely don't think about him. Why didn't you tell me that you were engaged? I would have beat him even more than I did earlier. Don't worry about my dad. As soon as we land, I am going to call and inform the police of what he said to me. Plus I have two witnesses who heard everything. We will get through this. I know that it seems like everything is against us but we are about to be somewhere new that we don't have to worry about everyone being out to get us. We are going to go to college and make new friends and we are going to be perfectly fine. Plus I hear that the group of freshman college kids this year is supposed to be the hottest yet. I can't wait to find a nice girl to be with and I am sure you will find a nice guy to be with. We can help each other out. You too Marissa."
"Dakota, I love you. You always know how to cheer me up. I am going to stop thinking about all of the bad things and start thinking about the good things. Where are the people coming to take our orders? I am hungry. Do you think that they will give us alcohol? We look 21. I think that we could get some alcohol," she said.
I was going to answer her but flight attendants came out with menus and she unbuckled, ran up, and grabbed two menus from their hands. I rolled my eyes and took one from her. I looked through the menu but everything in it looked really expensive.
I got a flight attendants attention and asked, "What is the cheapest thing on the menu?"
She blinked at me and laughed. She then said, "Sir, everything on here is free. Get what you want. You are first class."
"Oh, okay then. I will have the shrimp and steak please and a whiskey and coke. Thank you so much."
"How would you like your steak cooked sir?"
"Medium rare please."
"Yes sir, and for you ma 'me" she said pointing to Aleea.
"I want the chicken tenders and fries with a hard strawberry lemonade. Thank you," Aleea said.
Marissa ordered a cheeseburger and onion rings with a margarita.
We sat there and waited a few minutes. Our food came out in less than 15 minutes which was very surprising. Aleea got out the motion sickness medicine and I took it with my food and drink. After I ate, I was out like a light.
I woke up being jarred around. I looked around me and Aleea was beside me awake as well.
"What is that," I said.
"It is only turbulence. We will be landing in 2 hours. It is already 2 o'clock in the morning," she said with a yawn.
I groaned, closed my eyes and said, "Wake me up when we are there."
It didn't even feel like ten seconds later when she tapped my arm to tell me we were about to land. We had to buckle so that we didn't die while landing for some reason. I buckled and the plane started bouncing due to turbulence again. We started our descent and I saw the clouds swallowing us before we popped back out the other side. I saw the ground coming up to us slowly at first before it started coming faster. We hit the ground hard and everyone bounced around (I can see now why they made us buckle up.) We were allowed to unbuckle finally and when we got off of the airplane I was so excited.
