Lunch

Throughout the day I kept to myself, I could feel people staring at me like I was something to eat. They would all just chew me up and spit me out anyway. I stopped at my locker on my way to lunch. My locker was so boring and dull, God knows how long I'll be in this school, might as well spice up my locker a bit.

I close my locker shut, then see a face standing behind the once closed locker door. She was slightly taller than I was, with short blue hair, black beanie, and a unique septum piercing. She seemed hardcore.

"So I heard your the new girl, huh?" She spoke.

"Uh yeah who are you?" I asked.

"The name is Abby, my friends and I were wondering if you had anyone to sit with at lunch." She pointed over to a group with 4 guys and 2 girls. They all seemed to dress punk, they were dressed in skinny jeans, some had band tees, others had flannels. All of them were pretty much attractive.

Abby then proceeded to invite me to there lunch table, where she asked me so many questions. Mostly about the stuff I liked. We all had a lot in common, apart from the fact that I was also a complete hipster.

I go up to get my lunch, the school had a fucking salad bar! They had way more options then my other school. Is it sad that the only part I like about this school so far is the lunch room, I'm going to get fat at this school. I ended up trying out the salad bar getting just a plain old Chicken Cesar Salad with a grape soda. It's almost like they care if the students like the food or not.

I walked back to our circular table. I feel tables infrount of us I see that kid I bumped into earlier sitting alone, what was his name? Oh right it was Josh. I wondered why he was just sitting there alone.

"So what's that kid's deal over there, the one with the black hoodie sitting alone?" I asked my new table.

"Oh that's Josh, I think he has like some major family issues or something like that. Supposedly he lives with his drunk dad because his mom is in jail for being a major druggie, why ya asking?" One of the boy's asked, I'm pretty sure his name was Alex.

"Yeah, nobody talks to him." Abby announced.

"Hey guys I'll be right back I'm going to go sit with him." My curiosity got the best of me and I left the table.

We all did have stuff in common, but I don't know I don't really like them that much to be honest. I guess people noticed me walking towards Josh's table. Suddenly the lunchroom went quite, not completely silent, but quite. I felt my face flush with red, almost everyone was staring at me. I could hear the whispers. Where is that new girl going? or Who does she think she is? They were slowly starting to get to me but quickly I came across the table and sat down. The lunchroom filled with silence. He looked up at me with confusion.

"What are you doing here? I sit alone." He muttered.

"Yeah I know." I responded forking my salad. The entire lunchroom could hear our conversation. I gave off the expression like nobody was watching us, I could feel them, but I ignored them.

We continued with small talk for the rest of lunch. He didn't want to speak that much so I respected that. We both acted like nothing was happening around us and eventually the lunchroom went back to normal. He didn't talk about much, I told him a bit about myself, while he listened. Not your average conversation, but I think I could tell that he liked talking to me. Well listen. I didn't tell him the exact reason why I moved here but we only just met.  The bell rang notifying us that lunch was coming to an end, but then Josh said something that surprised me.

"Hey, do you mind sitting with me again sometime?" He spoke softly as if he didn't want anyone to hear him, but that's just how he spoke and that's better than nothing.

"Yeah sure, give me your phone so I can put my number in." He then proceeded to hand me his iPhone 5s, unlocking it first. His screensaver was the Nervana logo. I smiled as I saw that.

I then texted myself saying that it was him so I can put his contact info in my phone later.

As we walked out of the cafe together we then went our separate ways, he had his classes I had mine, before I knew it, the day was over, and boy was I exited to go home.

Hey, maybe this school isn't that bad after all.
