"Hey, I'm Ashton."
"Bri," I smiled my most charming smile but knew there was no way I would get this guy, he was way out of my league. "Come in, the boys are downstairs."
"Um, okay." He smiled timidly, seemingly much more shy than he previously was. I lead him down the stairs and to the couch which was holding up the three boys. Calum introduced Ashton, Michael and Luke and he sat down with me on the two seater opposite the boys.
"So you play drums right?" Michael asked stupidly, I mean has he seen the definition on his arms? "Uh yeah, you guys are a band right?"
"Yeah, however we are missing a drummer. How would you like to play us a bit of something?" Ashton got up and headed towards the old drum kit in the corner behind the boys guitars. He picked up the worn drumsticks and banged out a beat, which might I say was absolutely incredible. When he finished the boys looked at each other with their slacked jaws and nodded. "So Ashton, Ash if I may," Calum began, "how would you like to join the ranks of future superstars like ourselves?"
"I'm in." He smiled at us with those pearly whites and I gave him a nod of approval, masculine I know, but still very me. And that, ladies and gentleman, was the day my three, soon to be four best friends formed the band that would conquer the world.
Two weeks later
Me and Ash had gotten quite close and he and the boys were coming over tonight seeing as it was Friday and would be sleeping over until tomorrow. School had just let out and Ashton was driving me home, Green Day blasting through the speakers and out the windows. We sang along, well rather he did, I just mumbled as I listened to his voice which was wrapped in a thick Australian accent.
We rolled up to the curb of my house and I slammed the door shut behind me, leaning in the open window to say goodbye. "So I'll see you later then Ash?"
"Definitely Elle," he smiled adorably. Despite the short amount of time we had known each other, we really had grown close, almost closer than me and the other boys, but not quite because I had known Luke all my life and he had introduced me to Michael and Calum at an early age. He drove off and I ascended the stairs in my two, or three story house including the attic, desperate to finish my maths homework before the boys got here at 3:40. The stupid teacher had given me like four chapters out of the textbook as catchup because apparently I was failing the class, even thought I was sitting on straight A's, give or take a rare B+. So let's just say he hates me for reasons you will never know.
Time passed fairly slowly but I managed to finish the shit load of homework I had gotten from Mr. Douglas by the time my doorbell rang out through the empty house. My mum was at a conference that lasted for the whole weekend, so she would be back in the early hours of Monday morning. I hurried downstairs and threw open the door to see my adorkable best friends standing there with goofy grins plastered on their faces. I steeped back to let them in and we plonked down on the couch with Mean Girls 1, because the second one sucked, and blankets enveloping us, but only four so me and Ashton were sharing cause we were the losers of scissors paper rock.
"I'm gonna cook some popcorn."
"I'll come with." Ashton smiled and helped me up from my position on the lounge and we headed to my kitchen. I moved a barstool to the end of the bench so I could reach the cabinet that was above it. As I stretched forward I fell backwards and plummeted towards the floor at an alarming rate. As I was about to hit the ground arms secured themselves around my waist, slowing my fall but also managing to fall the rest of the way with me, ending up on top of me in very close proximity. I met Ashton's eyes in an intense stare, him occasionally glancing down at my lips. He began to lean in and I followed suit. His lips ghosted mine when he pulled away, offering me instead an outstretched hand which I took, and he pulled me to my feet.
"Are you alright?" He asked me, "Yeah, fine, thanks." I may be fine but I'm hella disappointed that that almost kiss wasn't an actual kiss. Ashton, being a great deal taller than me, grabbed the popcorn with ease and handed it to me. We waited until it beeped, indicating it was ready, and we took it out to the other hungry boys. The boys didn't notice we took a little longer than usual as the movie was already rolling.
It was now 1:30 in the morning and I still couldn't sleep. I was leant against Ash, Luke was on the floor, and Michael and Calum were cuddled on the three seater. "Can't sleep either?" I jumped a bit when Ashton spoke into my ear. "Nah it's a bit uncomfortable here, you?" I was curious as to what his reason was for why he was awake, "Same." I thought for a second before getting up, "You coming with me to my room?" He hesitated before replying, "Yeah sure." I smiled and lead him to my bedroom on the second floor.
We got under the covers and spooned, much to my dismay, but i suppose it came naturally to us. "Can we talk?" I asked me. He hummed a yes in response. "What was that earlier?" I lay in silence while waiting for him to respond. "I'm not sure." He responded. I turned to face him and we gazed at each other, he seemed content with leaving it at that. I might not agree but it was for the best, I guess. We fell asleep listening to the other ones steady breaths only to be awoken the next morning by the click of an iPhone camera going off. I slowly peeled my eyes open to see a blurry Calum and Luke standing in the doorway. "What have we just walked into?"
