Chapter 3:
Ha. The news of Zak’s previous encounter had left everyone with a healthy glow, including me. Not the type of glow that you get from eating vegetables or something. Ew, No. Although my excitement wasn’t related to him, it was the fact that Rose, Justin and I would be making our way to the fair in about twenty minutes. Previous encounters of the fair were with my mum, but this time I would have to brave it out on my own… well, with my friends. Last year, I had gone to the fair with Rose and my mum, we had had the best time, but this year would be better. Anything with friends always was, except this year we would be joined by a guy, not the guy I wanted it to be, but, it was still a guy.
The time was passing relatively fast seeing as it had been fifteen minutes and the only thing I had done was think of Corey. Dur, I thought to myself quietly, whenever I thought of him, it took up all my time, so when I had to concentrate I tried as hard as I could not to think of him…
The way I see it, is if you have time on your hands, use it to think of your loved ones. In my case, Corey was the only one to think about. He was gentle and beautiful, sweet and considerate, he cared for girls and… his world didn’t revolve around getting girls into bed. Although I thought it didn’t, no, Corey is sweet and you shouldn’t be thinking of him like that, I cussed under my breath, to low for anyone to hear. He stood out like a sore thumb… just because he’d rather do homework than go to a party and get smashed off his face. I liked that about him, he wasn’t rushed to get into the things of manhood that were considered legendary.
It read out and in fact, I still remember the quote, because it applied to me in so many ways at the time, and hay, it was a good god damn quote, “If a guy was to sleep with HEAPS of chicks, he would be considered a legend, but on the other hand, if a chick was to sleep with HEAPS of guys, she would be considered a slut.”
How unfair was that? It was the same concept, it was just that… that the genders were different. Completely different, yet one was considered better than the other because of the gender. Not fair… it’s not even on the verge of being fair, I argued in my head. Why did every time I fell in love, did it turn out wrong? Coz’ I certainly didn’t understand the logic, and I sure as hell wanted an explanation. All I wanted was him, and nothing could and wouldn’t change that. In some ways, he was my Romeo, and I know that sounded like I was taking it out of the play, but I wasn’t, that’s truly how I felt, and I wouldn’t surrender my feelings. Not to anyone!
“Don’t forget to do your homework class,” I didn’t know how long Mrs Cal had been talking. She had the kind of voice that was boring and she didn’t command attention, so when she started talking, she was unknown to the class, and I doubt even the nerds heard her and stopped talking.
“It’s due next Tuesday. Remember that the first lot of questions are due in the first lesson.” I swear I heard her cussing under her breath, she didn’t like our class much, she preferred the other English class.
BEEP BEEP…
It was like I was back in my dream; the very same sound had awoken me from it this morning and now I was on the verge of re-entering it.
My new world was located on the back of a motorbike, it was the same thing as this morning, Rose, her Dad’s friend and I were on our way up the Kuranda Range. Only question… was the series of events a REAL encounter?
“Claire.”
A voice was trying to cut into my dream, this couldn’t be happening, I was enjoying this dream, and someone was trying to end it. But the weird thing was that people dream at night, and it was anything but night. I continued on with my dream only to be interrupted again. By the same person did I mention?
