Chapter 5:
“Did you like it? Did you see much?” We were walking off the platform and I noticed that he was smiling. I had to know if he enjoyed it.
“Yeah, it was thrilling! I saw so many other things that I haven’t before.” He was avoiding my eyes.
I started laughing, “Really, cause’ when I looked over at you, you had your eyes closed and you were chanting, ‘Its okay, It’s okay…’” I took his hand and led him towards the stands. All he did was laugh and nod at my following accusations.

“So, tell me about yourself, Miss Claire Valentine.” He turned his body around to face me. We were lying on the grass fields, next to the fair. And if I didn’t know better, I would say he was flirting with me.
Come on Claire. Answer... Answer… Answer…
“Do you have all day?” If he was going to flirt, I might as well.
“Well, the question is, do we have all day.” He took my hand and started tracing circles into the back of it. I smiled in return and took in a big breath, ready for the explanation of my life. I hope he had all night.
“If you’re ready for torture, I am. I was adopted, have lived in Australia for all my life. I think. Have a few streets named after me, well, same name anyway. Umm, Rose is my bestest friend in the whole wide world! So yeah.” I looked up from the piece of grass I had been destroying to look him in the face. He had never looked so good, and the Moon didn’t help my view, it made his face glisten.
“Wow, adopted.” He questioned with true sincerity. I had found out that I was adopted a few years ago, by a letter in my parent’s cupboard. I wasn’t meant to be in their room, but like any other curious child, I disobeyed.
“Yeah. Anyway, do you want to go for a walk?” He looked down, realising that he hit a nerve when he asked about my adoption. He stood up and held his hand out for me. I welcomed the hand up and greeted the hug that followed. O.M.F.G! He’s hugging me! I repeatedly screamed in my mind.
For once, he was taking action. Corey was leading me into the fair, then I looked over my shoulder, seeing Rose and Justin. They had just had their first kiss, or at least I think first. I told you Rose. I told you if you gave him a shot, it would work out. Again, the only thoughts going through my mind: Why can’t I be involved with a guy like that? Corey deserves someone that will love him. I deserve someone who will love me. But at least I could talk to him now. Hug him now. The last part sent thrills down my spine; those last words had made my day even though the day was over.
I could feel a frown on my face, so I knew it was visible there as well. When Corey questioned me, I simply pointed in the direction of the canteen. ‘I want some Fairy Floss.’ He just laughed and took me over to buy some, although that wasn’t really what I had been thinking. He didn’t need me to dump all my feelings on him. Seeing as there were so many.
“Thanks. Do you want some?”
He shook his head. “I don’t like Fairy Floss.” My mouth was gaping open. How could he not like it? It was so sweet and sticky and not to mention delicious.
I threw it to the ground, “Then either do I,” I exclaimed. “I don’t want you to have to put up with me eating something you don’t like.” Corey only smiled and picked it up again, tearing the outside of the candy off.
“No, I want you to be happy. Here.”
I took the candy back and finished it quickly, throwing the stick in the bin. “Thanks.” I loved it when he was sweet like that. I don’t know if he knew he was doing it, but it made me feel special. And it improved my status with him. And that’s when he said the words I thought I would never forget…
