Forever and Always (A Zayn Malik FanFiction AU)

Chapter One

Reese’s POV

It’s been five years since I saw him. Five whole years the love of my life walked right through that terminal and left me. I haven’t seen or heard from Zayn in five years. My mind tells me that he probably died but my heart won’t believe it. His family moved right after his departure and I have no  idea where they are so I couldn’t contact them even if I wanted to. I miss him so much. But I’m ready to move on. Five years of being alone and wallowing in my own sad love life and now I’m ready to move on.

I’m a kindergarten teacher now. Went to school and got my masters degree.  I moved out of my parents place and they moved to the bahamas.  I went to the University of Chicago and lived on campus for a while. Now i’m living on my own in downtown chicago. I have a nice apartment that’s cozy and something I can call my own. My life is good. It’s just missing one thing. Or better yet one person.

-Next Day-

I wake up and get ready for work. I love my job I do but sometimes being around five and six year olds gets tiring. I walk into the building and greet a few of my fellow teachers. I’m the youngest working here and so it’s a little weird at times but they don’t stress our huge age gap. I’m almost to my classroom when I feel a hand grab mine.

“Hello Reese.” A warm smile creeps across Liam’s face.

“Hey Liam.” I smile back opening the door to my classroom.

“So I was wondering if you’re not doing anything later if you would maybe want to go out to dinner with me?” He looks nervous and I smile.

“Sure Liam.” His smile is so large I’m sure it’s going to fall off of his face.

“Alright. I will pick you up around eight?”

“How about I meet you there?”

“Ok. I will see you there.” He gives me the restaurant and I nod.

I think tonight will be fun. I haven’t been out in a long time and Liam is a nice guy.

-That Night-

I get ready for my date tonight and feel a little nervous. It’s been awhile since I’ve been out with someone and I’m just hoping those go good.  Liam is very attractive. Probably around 5’11, short brown hair and the sweetest brown eyes I’ve ever seen. He really is a catch, but that doesn’t stop that nagging in the back of my head that keeps saying ‘what about Zayn?’. What about Zayn. He isn’t here and I need to move on once and for all.

I arrive to the restaurant and see Liam is already seated at a booth.

“Hey Li.”

“Hey Reese.” He smiles and motions me to the seat across from him.

We order our food and talk about different things. He tells me about his love for turtles and about his home life. I tell him about my days in high school, minus Zayn, and why I started teaching in the first place. Liam really in a nice guy. I have no idea why he is still single. The restaurant door opens causing me to look up and I see him. Those gorgeous light brown eyes that shine even in the dimmest light. No no no. He is supposed to be dead. I grab my menu and cover my face hoping he didn’t see me.

“Um Liam. I’m sorry but I have to go. I will see you at work okay?” I speak quickly and make a run for the door.

I see Zayn glance at me but I keep walking to my car at a quick pace hoping to avoid him. Maybe he didn’t pay any attention to me. Maybe he didn’t see me at all. Maybe he’s not even here and my mind is just playing games on me because I’m finally moving on. Yeah that has to be it, because I know that Zayn Malik is dead...

“Reese!”

Damn it!
