Seventeen – Chapsticks

Preparing for my sister's Equilibrium Ball had been more intense than I'd thought. Maybe it was because I'd put a lot more effort than I'd usually do and that stressed me the hell out. Like for the first time, I actually felt like... I actually felt like I was excited to go out, to... to look pretty.

My eyes widened involuntarily at my revelation, making me pause in my act of selecting good clothes to ponder upon it. I mean it wasn't that I wanted to look like a rebellious teenager who'd care so less I'd wear jeans to the party, but I didn't want to look like I was trying too hard either. Especially since I was taking Aiden along.

I realized that even though I was taking him along, he wasn't aware of it... because I hadn't told him. Immediately dropping the clothes, I took out my coat, deciding to pay Aiden a visit.

Except, someone was already at my door by the time I'd made it out. I grinned when I opened the door and saw said boy I'd been thinking about beaming down at me.

"Hey, Aiden," I said, walking into his open arms for a hug.

"Hey, you," he laughed, blue eyes accessing me. "Going somewhere?"

I shook my head, "No. not anymore I guess,"

He took my hand, "Good. 'Cause I have somewhere I want to take you."

I looked up at him confused as he waited for me to lock up my apartment. "What? Why?"

"Well, there's somewhere I need us to be," he replied, taking my hand as we walked towards the elevator. "Say... what is this now? Tenth date?"

I laughed, "I think we ran out of all our dates already Aiden."

"Yeah well, outing. Whatever, there's just somewhere we need to be."

"So, are you going to tell me where or not?" I waved happily to Ben as we passed through the apartment lobby.

"You know those things couples always do? You know... go to prom together –"

I laughed, "But you're in college."

"I'm getting to the point!" he shushed me, a pouty look on his face. "– get Valentine's Day gifts, birthday presents, one year-versary and etc. right?"

I nodded, not really sure where he was going with it. "Well, I wanna start ours now." he finished, looking down at me with a beam.

I frowned, mostly out of confusion. "But all those things aren't even close. My birthday's not till half into next year."

He shrugged, his fingers curling just a fraction tighter around mine. "Well, let's just do ours in... say in advance okay? You never know what may happen."

My frown didn't waver, "Aiden –"

"There's the cab!" he yelled, cutting me off and leaving me in utter confusion.

---

"You know what shouldn't be allowed?" I said, wrapping my coat tighter around my body, "Nineteen year olds without licenses."

Aiden pouted, "I do have my license! I just don't have a ride that's all."

I shot him a glare, "Well, then get one."

He pouted more, not responding as we walked through the dark streets. Aiden had made us trek half the way, only taking cabs when necessary. I wouldn't have minded, I mean (his words, not mine), it was good for 'a good relationship' and we had plenty of things to talk about. Except I only had a pair of shorts, a summery t-shirt and my coat on. And I was freezing to death.
