Chapter 16
The night had finally arrived. It was the night of the Winter Ball. It happened to be that day that the first few flickers of snow began to fall out of the sky. It was the last week of the Winter Term and was now two weeks before Christmas. School had kindly given us the day off school to prepare ourselves. I was so happy.
The past month spent with Alec had been the best of my life. I had found someone who was like me and loved me for who I am. Then I was in a loving family who cared for me and would do anything for me. I was truly happy.
For the whole day I had banned Alec from my room. Of course being the cheeky git he is he tried to come in.
“Alec. Get out. Jeez. I only have a towel wrapped around me,” I groaned as I heard the door open.
“That sounds inviting,” Alec replied seductively.
“Ha funny,” I replied blushing, “Come on out.”
When I didn’t hear his footsteps move, I used my own power to push him out and lock my door. I heard him bang on the door.
“Not fair,” I heard him shout through the door.
“Have you ever heard the saying life is unfair?” I chuckled back.
I heard him groan before walking away from the door. I smiled inwardly to myself. I had a shower and blow dried my hair. I sat at my desk with my mirror on trying to decide what to do with it. I couldn’t decide whether to do something more complicated or keep it simple. I finally went with keeping my hair simple and elegant. I placed my hair in loose curls that hung half way down my back. My hair was brown and glossy and it looked classy and effortless.
I did my makeup next. Due to my perfect complexion I didn’t need to worry about using foundation or bronzer. My lips were already the perfect colour to go with my dress so I added a little lip balm to make it look even plumper and give it a slight shine. I added some dark eye shadow with a little black eye liner to bring out my eyes. Once again I didn’t need to add mascara as my eye lashes are always long.
Then I turned to placing my dress on. Carefully and delicately I placed it on and felt as it hugged my figure in all the right places. The material was soft and cascaded to the floor. I placed on my heels which I had spent hours practising walking in to make sure I wouldn’t fall over. I then placed a small silver bracelet around my right wrist. I walked over to my bed and crouched down and the reached under the bed. I rifled round until I found it.
I brought out the small delicate box that had all my memories of my mum in. I thought about how proud she would have been to see me like this. I reached into the box and pulled out this silver heart shaped locket. I opened it up and it had a picture of my mum in it. Steadily, I closed the locket and placed it around my neck.
