Chapter 18

Alec and I travelled really far that night. We just kept walking through the forest. I don’t know how long we kept walking in silence. None of us really knew what to say to each other. Our lives had been perfect. Just a couple of hours ago I was in my dress dancing with Alec. Everything was perfect. Yet now here I was. It was about 1 in the morning and Alec and I were camping out in the middle of the forest. I was struggling to sleep. Everything has changed so much.

I would be running away again. I don’t know for how long. All I knew was that people were after Alec and I. I felt scared. Even with all of my power. I didn’t want to hurt anyone. I didn’t want to use my abilities in that way. Neither did Alec. He was nervous. Our lives had been turned into turmoil was again. We had both ran away before. Last time I nearly died.

We woke up early and began moving away. We made it out of the forest and found ourselves on the outskirts of a town. I pulled my hood up so it was covering my face and Alec did the same. He took hold of my hand and gave a gentle squeeze.

Where do you want to go? Alec spoke from his mind.

I don’t know. We should try taking a bus. That would put us some distance away. There are going to be police looking for us and everything. They will have access to cameras and everything. We must keep our hoods up.

I know. Calm down. We will be fine. We will go somewhere remote. Into the countryside. Less people. Less cameras. So less chance of being found.

We made our way through the town. I had been here once before so I roughly knew my way around. We had only just made it onto the main street when we saw three police cars. Police officers were on the street handing out flyers. I read their minds.

Why the hell are we after these kids? We still don’t even know what they have done. This is all odd. This order came from the top of the force. Why don’t we know anything.

This is bad. This is so bad was all I thought. I couldn’t imagine life on the run. Orders for us to be found were coming from the very top. We were so outnumbered. If we got found all hell would break lose. We would have to use our abilities.

Alec. There is a train station. Let’s try and make it there. The police can’t do anything once we are on there.

Ok. Come down this alley. This street is too unsafe. We need to take back roads and paths to get to the place.

Alec and I took a detour and headed down an alley. It brought us out onto a smaller road. There were less people and no sign of the police as of yet. It was a residential street. There were no shops where people could come out of. This was definitely made the better choice. We never let go of each other’s hands. We walked down the street. I kept my mind reading ability on all the time. We needed it right now. We had to have a warning if someone was particular suspicious of us.
