I woke up the next morning and the clock on the nightstand read 11:43. I groaned. Getting up, I walked down the stairs and found Danny was still asleep. I noticed his Xbox plugged up to the TV. He must have played it after I went to sleep. I scrolled through the programs until I found YouTube. Selecting it, I waited until it loaded. Once it did, I searched for Caraphernelia by Pierce The Veil. I found it, clicked it, and turned the TV up, but not loud enough to wake Danny. With it playing I went to the kitchen. Last night I noticed a pile of dishes in the sink and since I was staying here I decided I'd clean them. I found a sponge and soap under the sink. With Vic Fuentes's voice filling my ears I started.
" What if I can't forget you? I'll burn your name into my throat. I'll be the fire that'll catch you. What's so good about picking up the pieces? None of the colors ever light up anymore in this hole." The song went off and I searched for another. " I kissed the scars on her skin I still think you're beautiful and I don't ever want to lose my best friend. I screamed out, 'God, you vulture, Bring her back or take me with her!'" I dried the last dish and put it in the clean stack on the counter, then put them in the cabinet.
"Hey." I turned around quick.
"Hey. I didn't wake you did I?"
"No. You're good. You didn't have to clean."
"You let me stay here, it's the least I could do."
"Eh. You like Pierce The Veil?"
"Yeah. They're pretty good."
"Good choice. You have their lyrics on there?" He nodded to my tattoo.
"Yeah. Right here." I showed him the back of my arm, where it says "What's so good about picking up the pieces".
"Nice. So I have to head to Austin today so I'll drive you home."
"Thanks. Really."
"Stop thanking me. Its no big deal. You can wear those home and I'll get them another time."
"Okay."
"On second thought. Wait here." He walked down the hall and came back five minutes later with a pair of pants, a shirt and my swim suit.
"Lunch is my treat. I know this great place in Austin. When's your first appointment today?"
"Not until 5."
"That works. Its a three hour drive from here to Austin so we'll get there and eat then I'll drop you off at your house or the parlor which ever one."
"The parlor. My cars there. You don't have to take me to lunch."
"It's happening. Deal with it and go get dressed."
"Who's jeans are these anyway?"
"Ben's. Don't ask." I laughed and walked to the bedroom I was in last night. The pants were a little long for me and the shirt was smaller than last night but still too big. I laughed when I read the front, "Imagine Living Like A King One Day." It had the album cover on it.
"Nice shirt you got here Danny!" I heard him laugh and I grabbed my shoes that were in the guest bathroom upstairs where I changed yesterday. I rolled my eyes. Juliet could leave the shoes but take the clothes. After slipping on my vans I walked downstairs with the clothes I wore to sleep in my hands. "Where do you want me to put these?" Danny looked up from his computer. "Just put them in my bathroom." I walked off and did so. Back in the living room Danny was putting his boots on.
"You ready?"
"Yeah." He opened the door and out we went. Once in the car he set up his phone and put it on Pandora. Immediately the car was filled with the guitar from Caraphernelia. I sang along nodding my head with the beat. It went off and I grabbed his phone. He grabbed it back and unlocked it. I took it and looked through his Pandora. He had various artists and genres. I scrolled through trying to decide on a station to pick. Giving up, I put it on shuffle and A Day To Remember came on.
"I'm always screaming my lungs out, until my head starts spinning. Playing my songs is the way I cope with life."
"Negative." He took the phone and turned it. "You don't like A Day To Remember?"
"I do. Just don't feel like listening to that song." I shrugged and listened to the new song. I didn't recognize the artist. "Who is this?"
"I have no idea actually. It's weird." I shrugged again and leaned my head back.
"Thanks."
I looked up, "what?"
"Thanks. For yesterday and the issue with Jennifer."
"Oh. That was nothing."
"It was something to me."
"What's the story with her anyway?"
He scoffed, "I thought she was perfect. And for a while she was. I met her on tour. We got together and she was everything. But when we left for our recent tour she seemed kinda distant. Said she wanted some space so I gave it to her. Then we got home and I wanted to surprise her. You know the rest."
"Damn."
"Yeah. And then you staying last night kinda made it better. A bit. Still hurts, but its going to."
I nodded, "I can't stand cheaters. They piss me off. I don't care who it is, whether I know them or not, I'm going to say something. She just pushed it too far."
"Well, thanks."
"Anytime." We were silent the rest of the ride. The ride seemed to pass pretty fast though. We were in Austin before I knew it. I looked as he drove through the city and to the restaurant.
"Old Athens?"
"Yeah. Its Greek. And fucking fantastic."
"Okay." I laughed and got out of the car. He lead the way in the restaurant.
"Table for two?"
He nodded at the hostess and she led us to our table.
"What can I get you two to drink?"
"Mountain Dew." He looked at me and laughed when we said the same thing. Our waiter took our drink order then walked off.
"What ya thinking?"
"Just a Gyro. The house special." He nodded. "I was thinking the same." Our waiter came back with our drinks. "We'll both take the house special." Our waiter jotted it down then left. I put a straw in my drink and sipped on it. "I like your hair." I laughed. "Thanks. That was random."
"Well." He shrugged and drank his drink. A few minutes later our waiter came with our order. He set the plates down then left. I grabbed the Greek sandwich and took a bite. We ate in silence then paid and left.
"Go straight and when you hit the four way stop go left. The shop is on the right, you can't miss it." He nodded and then drove. When he pulled in the parking lot he whistled, "nice." The parlor was a one story building and the outside was red and white. It was nice for a tattoo parlor.
"Wanna come in and kook around?" He checked his watch and shook his head.
"I wish. I've got to get to the studio before Ben gets pissed." I nodded and opened the door. "Bye Tatt."
"Bye Danny." I walked in the shop without a backwards glance.
