Chapter 5

 "Your c-cousin?" I asked. "Yes." he replied. He let go of my neck and I fell to the ground. "How do you now that I was marrying him?" I asked. He pointed to my hand. "Your ring...it was his mother's." he said. I looked at it. I didn't realize that Steph had given me his mother's ring. "Wait." I said "Why isn't it on his mother's hand?" I asked. "She died, about five years ago. She was hunted down and killed." he said. "Why was she hunted and killed?" I asked. "Your not going to believe me." he said. I stood up. "I have a feeling that I will though.' I said. He sighed. "She was a mermaid." he said. "oh." I said. "I knew you wouldn't believe me." he said. "no I do." I said. He rolled his eyes. "The only thing left from her was her ring. Steph was so crushed. He joined this army in a different country under a Captain Maden." he said. He didn't know that Steph was a merman. "where is he?" asked Luke. I bit my lip trying to think of an excuse. "I...I can't tell you." I said. "What! But he's my own cousin!" he said. "I'll tell you but first you need to tell me who killed his mom and what happened to his dad." I said. "After what happened to his wife, Steph's dad kind of disappeared. His mom was killed by this band of geeks who kills  mythical creatures for a living." he said. "Now tell me where he is." demanded Luke. A deal was a deal. And I would never ask Steph to talk about something that hurt him so badly. "He's...umm...in the water." I said. Luke gave me a puzzled look. "What?" he asked. "Like his mom." I said. Luke's eyes widened. "you know your marrying a fish...right?" he said. "We are not fish only half fish!" I yelled. I quickly covered my mouth just wanting to change the word from "we" to "he". "Wait, "we?' he asked. "You mean to say that I was dating a fish?." he asked. "Half fish." I corrected. when I realized what I said put me in danger I tore off to the back door and Luke chased me. We both ran to the beach and I dove into the water. The transformation happened. Luke dove in after me. I leaned up against a rock. He came over and saw me. Out of his pocket he pulled out a water proof camera and took a picture. I swam away as fast as I could. But then I realized that if Luke showed that picture to anyone...I could be killed.
