Two weeks later in Delhi, India
"Hey ..hey madam...here you go...for Rs 1450," called out the necklace vendor to Ravina. She chose not to turn immediately knowing very well that the more she shows hesitancy to buy the lower his selling price will be and she is proved correct.
"Ok Rs 1400 ...last price Rs 1300...come on Madam let me earn too. Its morning you are the first customer I had...don't go without buying..." he pleaded. Ravina shakes her head in humor and walks back to him.
He hands her the neckpiece she has chosen a while ago. It was rusted silver chain with a delicate pearl pendent. The moment she saw it she knew she wanted to buy it for Sara.
"Madam...if you want I can tell you a shop where you can buy pretty dresses too. These days gowns and long Anarkali suits are very much in craze. My uncle's shop is very near around the corner. He will give you discount," the vendor hints. If this was her first day in Delhi, she would have hopped on the offer but now things are different.
The vendors in Delhi are extremely good salesman. They take commission from all shops nearby and in exchange refer their customers to them disregard to the quality of the merchandise on sale. Yes, it won't be fair to tag everyone in this category. But, most are actually like this vendor here.
He smiles his pale white teeth at her, inwardly hoping that she would agree
"No thank you Bhiaya..Next time," politely telling him she leaves his shop and bumps into a small boy.
He holds out his tiny hand to her, not to hold but to ask for some rupees. Ravina looks into her purse and takes out a candy bar she had purchased earlier and hands it to him. His face brightens with a smile and he runs off.
Ravina watches him leave and can't help but feel sad for him and the likes of him.
Around her the busy Chandni Chowk Market is bustling. People are swarming everywhere laden with huge shopping bags. Some are eating lip smacking goodies like Gol Gappe and Bhalla Papri, which despite being a street food tastes like heaven. No wonder Suraj wanted to wait over there for her, while she did her bargaining shopping like a pro.
She joins him and asks for a plate of Chat for herself. Suraj offers her a bite from his Aallo Tikki and she doesn't need to be asked again.
Ever since she has arrived in Delhi and found out that Sara has gone on a small hunt and cannot be contacted till three weeks, Suraj has been playing her tour guide and had been taking her to all hot spots of Delhi. This is not the first time that they have come to Chandni Chowk but somehow it felt like that.
"So where to next Madam," teases Suraj as he makes the bill payment of their food.
"How about ...we shop a little more and then head back to your house?" came a muffled response from Ravina as she devoured her chat with a feisty hunger.
Looking at her, dressed in a white cotton kurta, legging, Duppata, with her dark black hair secured tightly in a bun, eyelashes stroked with just a hint of mascara and lips painted nude, she seemed to mingle quite well with the crowd here. Many even mistook her for being an Indian too, thanks to her dark looks and sharp facial features.
Just then Ravina flashes him a smile and Suraj notices her fangs. Oh Dear Lord! They had been so preoccupied with her shopping spree that he had forgotten to give her the blood bottle. He searches his pocket and feels at ease as he finally locates it in his front pants pocket.
He casually looks around them to ensure that no one is actually noticing them and passes the bottle to her. She seems to be bit surprised by his suddenness but then understands the necessity and immediately gulps it down. Just as she finishes and wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, a woman passing by comments to her fellow companion.
