Strange. Strange was what they'd call you. Strange, weird, crazy, freakish. And all because a few strange things would coincidentally happen around you. When you were a toddler, you could remember writing on the wall before promptly getting into trouble for it. The very next day, you thought your punishment (which was only the time out chair, but at that age, the time out chair seemed ghastly) was extraordinarily unfair. After all, they were washable markers. Your parents never seemed to consider this when they took away your markers, only upsetting you further. So the obvious solution was to pretend to write on the walls. Except, as you marked with your finger along the wall, ink seemed to be coming out of your finger and onto the wall. Of course, you were remarkably happy about this discovery, and continued to write on the wall.
Another instance of a mishap was when your family took a trip to the museum. You were quite excited, and you found yourself marveling at every old relic on display. You came across one you especially liked, a display consisting of small scale armies replicating a battle in the Civil War. You were older now and understood what the Civil War was, but what you didn't understand was why your parents wanted to keep going. Were they not fascinated by the tiny people with shotguns? After shouting your refusal to move, there was a small bang, a crack of glass, and the discovery that the tiny people with shotguns had come to life and indeed shot their guns at the glass.
Numerous other encounters had occurred, but there are much too many to recount them all. Finally, your eleventh birthday rolled around, and you got one of your first pieces of mail. It was a strange piece of mail indeed, with words in green ink/
Upon opening this letter, your hazel eyes went wide with childish excitement. The letter explained that you had been invited to a school for wizards and witches. Normally, a small child might turn down the prospect of entering a new school, because, well, school. But this school claimed to be amagic school! And magic makes everything better, as every child knows.
You promptly rushed to tell your mother of this new revelation, waving the letter with the green ink in the air. Wide-eyed, your mother (At the age of seven, it turned from parents into mother, something which you still didn't quite understand, even at the age of eleven.) snatched the piece of paper out of your much smaller hands, and her eyes darted quickly over the letter as she skimmed over the contents. Even though you hadn't realized it, your mother had seemed to be expecting a piece of mail like this to come soon. You only expected birthday cards, since today was your special day after all.
Your father had been a wizard, which you were quite unaware of at the time, so your mother opted to sit you down at the island in the kitchen where she always reported serious news. She had started by telling she ought to have a talk with you. You, not realizing what she meant, jumped to the conclusion she meant the talk some of your friends said their parents had had with them. You visibly cringed at that thought.
Your mother explained that it was not the talk. It was just a talk. About wizards and witches. You perked up upon hearing this news. She explained that your father was magic, that there was a school where people who are magic learn how to use magic, and that your father unfortunately never made top grades in this school. However, she added that she expected you to do much better in this school than he ever had. It took you a minute to realize she'd just told you you'd be going to this school. This magical school.
